Loetz Glass Vase Iridescent Amber & Violet ca. 1901

Loetz Glass Vase Iridescent Amber & Violet ca. 1901

By Loetz Glass

Located in Klosterneuburg, AT

An elegant example of Viennese Jugendstil glass artistry, this vase was produced by Johann Loetz Witwe around 1901 and features the rare and highly decorative Cytisus Neuroth pattern. The iridescent glass body, with its flowing, organic marbling in warm amber and deep violet tones, reflects Loetz’s mastery in achieving both movement and depth through complex surface treatments. The piece is further elevated by its finely crafted metal mounting, executed by Argentor-Werke Rust & Hetzel, Vienna, whose refined, geometric ornament forms a striking contrast to the fluidity of the glass. This harmonious interplay between material and design exemplifies the collaborative spirit of the Viennese Secession period. A sophisticated and collectible object, uniting technical innovation with artistic ambition at the height of early 20th-century design. Bib.: Waltraud Neuwirth, Argentor Werke...

Bohemian Glass Bowl Loetz Cytisus Red Green Orange Gold circa 1902 Jugendstil

By Loetz Glass

Located in Klosterneuburg, AT

Austrian Jugendstil, floral glass bowl, manufactured by Johann Loetz Witwe, red, green, orange, gold, circa 1902, "Cytisus Maigruen" decoration, bohemian glass The "Cytisus" decoration, also known as "golden rain", is one of the most beautiful decor variations produced by the Johann Loetz Witwe glassworks. As with other decorations, Cytisus was also inspired by the secessionist taste in art in Vienna around 1900. The Beethoven frieze by Gustav Klimt in the Vienna Secession can be cited as an example of this type of artistic design. The bowl captivates with its calyx shape, where form and decoration seem to harmonize. The rare color combination of "Maigruen" (May green...

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Shortly before the foundation of WMF, Daniel Straub had founded his first manufacturing company, Maschinenfabrik Geislingen, in connection with his participation in the construction of the Geislinger Steige, the steepest railway line in Europe at the time. As experienced metal spinners, the brothers Friedrich and Louis Schweizer were able to contribute their technical expertise to the project. Most early designs for the company looked to past historical styles although early recognition of the quality of its products included the award of a Gold Medal at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. The company showroom, established in Berlin in 1868, was its first retailing outlet and marked the beginnings of a rapid development in scale. By 1880, when the company merged with Ritter & Co. to form the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, the company employed about 200 and had a range of nearly 1,000 products, many of them electroplated. In the late 19th century the company was also involved in architectural decoration, ornaments for the home and replicas of works of art and archaeology, including the reproduction of Lorenzo Ghiberti's famous early Italian Renaissance doors...

Made in Vienna around 1920, the tray features a refined oval shape and is adorned with sculptural handles typical of the Art Nouveau aesthetic — flowing lines and organic motifs.
