Beautiful sleek and slender matte black mid century ceramic pitcher with hand painted golden decoration. Distinct 'Bucchero' ceramic with a very deep and beautiful black color - famously made in the village of Gubbio in Italy. This pitcher is made by one of the 'Bucchero' makers in the village, named Sebastiani.
It features a wonderful hand painted golden decoration showing two ladies interacting. The ceramic gets its characteristic black color through a special process in which the oxygen is removed from the red clay. So no paint or varnish is used. Lightweight metal stand has a light beige/gold-toned color to the exterior and remains unfinished at the backside. Carved art deco design inclusive of long lines that begin at three separate curved clawfoot style feet and lead upward to distinctive fan pattern details that hold glass urn in place. Metal stand allows for glass urn to have an almost levitating appearance when placed inside. Some pieces are marked/labeled at backside with, "0-1" & "0-2". Glass urn features a curved/rounded design with a wide belly and pointed base. Circumferential groove details at top portion of urn with a heightened neck/mouth for matching stopper.

The present dispenser was either used as a water or wine cooler or possibly for washing hands. The original lid is lost-to-time, yet its provincial beauty remains attractive and sublime. The present example—baked with white enamel and decorated with a lovely hand-painted polychrome lattice and floral theme—is warm, elegant and rustic. The curving linear form of the flowers subtly recall the influence of Japan’s Kakiemon style present in France during the Rococo period yet is still indebted to the earlier influence of Italy’s prolific maiolica workshops.
This fountain would serve as an elegant addition for display on an oak or distressed wood console table...
