A small millefiori murrine glass vase in an unusual rare shape with two handles. Manufactured by Vetreria Fratelli Toso, Murano around 1910. Made of polychrome murrines (purple, green, red and white) which were melted together. Surface with acid etched matte finish. The vase is an authentic example of early 20th century Murano art glass. It was part of a large Fratelli Toso glass collection with over 600 pieces - collected since the 1970s.
Fratello Toso was one of the leading art glass manufacturers of Murano in the 20th century. In the early 1900's Fratelli Toso started to produce glasses in murrine technique. Fine and rare Jugendstil / Art Nouveau / Secession / Arts & Crafts Erhard & Sohne footed round tray or bowl with amazing inlaid wood veneer and patinated brass showing a dragonfly and leafy branch decoration, Germany circa 1900. The presented and chosen motif reminds of the gorgeous lampshades made by Tiffany Studios, New York at the same period of time. The offered unmarked bowl which has a width of 19,3 cm / 7.60 inches and which has a height of 3 cm / 1.18 inches rests on three ball feet and stays in very good to excellent original condition with a nice and warm patina, minor typical and characteristic wear consistent with age and use. The high-end antique Jugendstil bowl shows superior craftsmanship and design elements by the renowned designers, Erhard & Sohne, established 1844 in Germany. The famous German company was granted the world patent for the manufacture of brass inlay in 1904.
