Striking serving set of tureen with lid and underplate features ceramic or porcelain body with faux bamboo decor, forming a strong geometric trim in Chinese Chippendale style. Warm, buttery yellow colors of the bamboo trellises with mocha brown accents are meticulously hand-painted with great detail; the faux bamboo trellis, done in relief, stands out on white background. The lid has an opening for the serving utensils.
The tureen and the underplate are marked with "Made in Italy" on the bottoms; the pieces are missing the distributor stickers. The Chinese Chippendale style was popular in Italy in 1960s, and fine examples of Italian designs were produced by multiple companies, including the luxury furniture company Vivai Del Sud, which made both furniture and decor items, such as lamps, in this style. We're attributing the set to Mottahedeh, who sourced high quality Italian majolica in similar styles; the pieces will be simply marked ITALY or "Made in Italy" and Mottahedeh will add their paper stickers. As the pieces are quite old, the stickers often get lost or destroyed.
The tureen with its classic shape, detailed decor, and historically inspired design will blend quite well with many china and serverware patterns, both in traditional and more modern styles.
