An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon; an addition to our teaware collection. This exceptional antique George V Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon has a plain shovel shaped bowl. The handle terminal is embellished with a cast features depicting Celtic knots and interlacing designs, paralleling a mystical interlaced creature. The handle stem is further ornamented with a raised paralleling border, incorporating scrolling designs to either end. This impressive antique 1920s silver caddy spoon was crafted by the distinguished and collectable silversmith Alexander Ritchie of Iona, Scotland; the piece includes full Glaswegian hallmarks, in addition to identifying 'AR', 'Iona' and registration number RD NO 643267. Alexander was in the Merchant Navy and returned home once injured in a ship wreck. He returned home to help the family run hospitality business and married Euphemia Thomson; a prior student of the Glasgow School of Art. The couple expanded their love of art and Alex expanded his skill set from wood carving to metal work. Everything was made to the Ritchies' specifications and to a high standard. In 1937, Alex Ritchie's work was included in a prestigious Scottish Industries Exhibition on London. Condition This antique Scottish sterling silver caddy spoon is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the stem and reverse of the handle are all very clear. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique William IV English sterling silver table snuff box; an addition to our collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique William IV sterling silver snuff box has a rectangular, rounded form. The body of the box is embellished with impressive chased floral motifs accented with scrolling stem and foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background. The decoration to the body incorporates a chased single leaf design to each corner, emanating from the rounded lower portion. The upper rim of the body and swept sides of the cover are encompassed with a continuous band of engine turned decoration. The underside of the box features a further panel of engine turned decoration. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover embellished with an engine turned bordered rectangular vacant cartouche to the upper plateau. The cover is further embellished with an exceptional cast and applied domed, incurved border to the upper portion, matching the ornamentation to that of the body and continuing to an impressive floral thumbpiece to the anterior edge. This antique sterling silver snuff box opens to reveal the original gilded interior. Condition This antique sterling silver snuff box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. This exceptional antique George IV Scottish sterling silver goblet has a circular bell-shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot. The anterior surface of this antique goblet is embellished with a collectable contemporary engraved inscription 'Presented by The Hull & Leith Shipping Compy', To Wm Gavin Esqr Leith as a token of the high sense they entertain of his services to the company, January 1821'*. The upper portion of this exceptional example of George IV silverware is encompassed with a band of flat engraved oak leaf and acorn decoration. The pedestal stem is embellished with moulded decoration to the knops. The foot of this antique silver goblet is encircled with an impressive pin struck and wrigglework leaf decorated border, in addition to an applied gadroon border to the rim. The goblet retains the original gilding to the interior. The hallmarked posterior surface of the goblet bears the retailer's marks 'Hay' and 'Leigh', pertaining to John Hay of Leith. NOTE: * Shipbuilding has been carried out in Leith since the early 14th century, with The Hull & Leith Shipping Co., forming in circa 1800. They joined, in 1836, with Leith & Hamburgh Shipping Co. (founded 1816) to form the Hull & Leith Steam Packet Co. and started trading between these two ports. In 1847 they merged with Edinburgh & Dundee Steam Packet Co. to become the Forth & Clyde Shipping Co. Due to the regular sailings between Leith and Hamburg, the company name changed in 1852 to Leith, Hull & Hamburgh (later Hamburg) S. P. Co. The company went forwards and expanded to operate cargo and passenger lines throughout the 19th and the 20th centuries. Condition This antique 1820s Scottish silver goblet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The decoration is all very crisp.
