An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English Britannia standard silver straight Trefid pattern flatware service for twelve persons; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian English Britannia* silver flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Trefid pattern. The reverse surface of each silver spoon and fork handle terminal is embellished with a fine and impressive contemporary engraved crest depicting a bugle-horn stringed. Each Trefid spoon and ladle features a prominent and impressive, classic rat tail ornamentation to the reverse of the bowl. The original Britannia silver forks have three tines/prongs; these are highly desirable. This silver canteen consists of 70 pieces:Basic Service: 12 Table forks 12 Table spoons 12 Dessert forks 12 Dessert spoons 6 Teaspoons 6 Coffee spoons Additional Pieces: Pair of serving spoons Pair of sauce ladles 6 Salt spoons Each piece of this straight** cutlery service have been crafted by the English silversmith and flatware makers John Chapple & John Mantell in 1887. George V dressing-table service crafted of silver-gilt, comprising an oblong tray, a large jewel box with detachable velvet lining, two hair brushes, two clothes brushes, a comb and a hand mirror, all contained in a fitted red leather covered case. The border of each piece is chased with strapwork on a matted ground, engraved with an early 18th century style cartouche surrounding a vacant shield. The rich and delicate decoration is composed of naturalistic plants and animal motifs. The jewel box and tray are beautifully embellished with grotesque in Renaissance style, depicting mascaron, animals and foliated scrolls, in a fantastic architectural setting. A Very Fine William III Britannia Standard Mug Made in London in 1699 by Thomas Parr I The Mug has a slightly tapering "Can" shaped form and stands on a spreading reeded foot. The lower half of the main body is decorated with raised vertical flutes. The upper section displays a horizontal girdle flanked by semi-circular motifs and an upper band of punched foliate motifs. This fine piece has a slightly everted reeded rim and a scroll reeded handle. The Mug is of a very good weight and gauge and is fully marked on the side of the main body in the patterning. Though unmarked, this napkin ring was most certainly made by The Meriden Britannia Co. and came in two versions; one with a platform beneath the boy; this example has the young boy resting one foot on the ground pulling on the napkin ring. It is similar in appearance, and the figure is almost identical to the ring found on page 263; plate 647 "Figural Napkin Rings" by Sandra Whitson; the only difference being the upturned toe part of the right foot on this example. The Meriden Britannia Co. was formed in 1852 by Isaac Lewis, along with three other partners in Meriden, Connecticut. The ring is circa 1885, the heyday of Victorian figural napkin rings...
