A serene and beautifully executed Florida wetland landscape by Joseph Gibbs, one of the original and most respected members of the Florida Highwaymen. Painted circa the 1970s, this atmospheric composition depicts white herons gliding and wading through still waters beneath moss-draped cypress trees, a subject closely associated with Gibbs’ strongest and most collectible work.
Executed in oil on canvas, the painting demonstrates the hallmarks of the Highwaymen tradition: luminous sky tones, reflective water rendered in layered greens and blues, and expressive foliage achieved through confident, gestural brushwork.
