One of a kind Large Sunburst mirror in the manner of Gilbert Poillerat, Iron, gold leaf. France, 1930s-1940s. This stunning mirror has an eye-catching sunburst design with slightly curved long rays surrounding a round mirror glass. It was entirely made by hand in iron. Terrific aged patina and original gold leaf gilding. This starburst mirror will be an elegant statement placed alone or as a part of a sunburst mirrors wall composition. It will add a luxury but strong accent wherever you place it as it has brutalist and art deco accents. Rare find. At the back part it has the Sala Busquets original retailer's label at Passeig de Gracia, 98 in Barcelona. A quite wonderful, intricately crafted, evocative Tsuba - Japanese sword hand guard often circular, sometimes square, which emerged as an essential part of Japanese sword craftsmanship during the Heian period (794–1185). Initially crafted from iron or bronze, over time they became more decorative in nature and more for show as the waring Samurai clans disbanded and became part of Japan's past. The particular Tsuba features a traditional wave design - a classic motif made popular by renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai's famous image "The Great Wave off Kanagawa (Under the Wave off Kanagawa (Kanagawa oki nami ura)." The use of copper or brass highlights, dark rich patina and expert craftsmanship makes this quite an appealing work.
