Rectangular box in purple Lucite and chrome by the Italian designer Alessandro Albrizzi. Made in Italy, circa 1970.

The Story The eternal Greek story of sea and land braking into each other to the infinite, captured into one memorable piece – Crete Table. Monolithic, sculptural and functional artwork. A geometry with contrasting straight and fluid lines, that is hiding a message expressed through materials and of the way they interact between each other. The protagonists of the Crete Table are the materials and their apparent opposed affair. I was looking for strong contrasts between shapes, colors and transparencies – that could have the strongest impact with the less elements. There is also a bold presence in a discreet style, a table of charm that will stop the viewer’s time. Personal customization Witness the incredible journey that starts from your dream island, and end to the creation of this beautiful maritime table...

One of the most recognizable and important names in the American studio craft movement of the 1960's and 70's, Paul Evans was a groundbreaking pioneer in brutalism. Collaborating as well as sharing a showroom with Phillip Lloyd Powell until 1964 when Evans met the owner of Directional Furniture and created a line of 6 coffee tables to go into the Directional High Point, NC booth for the spring Market. As the story has been recounted by Dorsey Reading, the tables never even made it to the showroom floor. Evans soon found out the tables never even had the opportunity to be sold; obviously disappointed, owner of Directional, BG agreed to put the tables out on the showroom floor in New York City to placate Paul Evans. What happened can probably best be compared today with "going viral." The coffee tables started flying off the floor, and the orders came rolling in. This fervor led to Evans creating eventually over 800 designs with Directional-- with the very first series being the "Sculptured Metal" Collection which was publicized in 1968. This piece specifically is a throne chair that also swivels. Upholstered in black leather, this throne chair is a wonderful example of Paul Evans Sculpted bronze technique, which involves hand sculpting using an epoxy resin and coating in an atomized cold cast bronze. This piece is signed and dated "PE 69" making it an early example of his goopy cast bronze series and line of furniture for Directional. It's extremely important to note: Directional Furniture showrooms in New York City and Chicago were private to-the-trade only showrooms, so only interior designers and their clients were able to custom order these pieces through the showroom. There was never any "inventory" of furniture. Each and every piece was a custom, hand crafted work of art, created to order. No two of any piece were ever alike. Evans eventually went on to employ a team of nearly 90 people, working two shifts-- helping to hand-craft his designs. This could easily explain why not every piece is hand signed, therefore making an early, had-signed pieces like this even more desirable for a collector. This piece has a wonderful patina, with vibrant colors and while still brutalist in nature, it's a bit more subdued and could effortlessly be blended into any contemporary environment. We currently have this piece in the gallery paired with a Vladimir Kagan serpentine cloud sofa, and a Karl Springer goatskin...

Antique English Silver-Plated Coffee Pot, Victorian Era, Late 19th Century Tall Cylindrical Form with Hinged Lid and Classical Proportions This exceptional Antique English silver-plated coffee pot, dating to the late 19th century, is a distinguished example of Victorian-era table silver, combining refined craftsmanship with timeless functional elegance. Executed in a tall cylindrical form, the pot features a gracefully articulated pouring spout, a substantial curved handle, and a hinged domed lid fitted with a decorative thumb lift—designed for ease of use while maintaining heat during service. The body is subtly banded and rests on a stepped circular base, lending architectural balance and visual authority. Its clean vertical profile reflects the restrained sophistication of late Victorian design, making it equally suitable as a functional serving vessel or a decorative silver object within curated interiors. Origin & Period Produced in England during the late Victorian period, this coffee pot reflects the high standards of traditional English silversmithing, when silver-plated wares were crafted to serve both domestic households and formal hospitality settings. Such vessels were integral to coffee, tea, and hot water service during formal dining and afternoon tea rituals. The presence of maker’s marks stamped on the upper body confirms its period authenticity and adherence to established English production standards of the era. Design & Decorative Appeal The pot’s design balances practicality and elegance, with a well-proportioned spout for controlled pouring and a hinged lid that opens smoothly while remaining securely attached. The interior of the lid shows concentric turning marks, a characteristic feature of hand-finished silverware from the 19th century. This versatile piece integrates beautifully into: Traditional and period interiors Classic English dining rooms Layered tabletop and sideboard displays Luxury bar or coffee service settings Curated collections of antique silver Its understated form allows it to complement both ornate Victorian silver collections and more minimalist, heritage-inspired interiors. Craftsmanship & Materials Material: Silver-plated metal Technique: Hand-finished Victorian silverwork Construction: Hinged lid, applied handle, stepped base The silver-plated surface displays a soft, even patina, consistent with age and careful use, enhancing the pot’s authenticity and visual depth without diminishing its refined presence. This is not a decorative reproduction, but a genuine antique English silver vessel crafted for long-term use and lasting beauty. Condition Excellent antique condition, with light age-related wear and patina appropriate to its period. The structure remains sound, the hinge operates correctly, and the overall form retains strong definition and balance. Interior Styling & Use This antique coffee pot works beautifully as: A functional coffee or hot water pot A decorative silver accent for dining rooms or bars A statement object in traditional or eclectic interiors A collectible piece within a curated silverware display It pairs effortlessly with linen table settings, crystal glassware, porcelain services, dark wood furniture, and marble or stone surfaces, adding heritage and elegance to any environment. Why This Piece Is Special This Victorian English silver-plated coffee pot represents a timeless fusion of utility, craftsmanship, and understated luxury. Its classic proportions, authentic patina, and refined detailing make it highly appealing to collectors of antique silver, interior designers, and lovers of traditional English decorative arts. More than a serving vessel, it is a decorative object with historical presence, equally suited to daily appreciation or formal display.
