Kawai Gyokudo (?? ??, November 24, 1873-June 30, 1957) was the pseudonym of a Japanese painter in the Nihongo school, active from Meiji through Showa period Japan. His real name was Kawai Yoshisaburo.

Biography
Gyokudo was born in what is now Ichinomiya city, Aichi Prefecture, as the eldest son of a paper, ink and brush merchant. He went to Kyoto in 1887 to study under Kono Bairei of the Maruyama-Shijo school of painting. In 1896, he moved to Tokyo and he became the student of Hashimoto Gaho, of the Kano school. He also studied Western-style painting and developed a highly personal style, especially in the field of landscape painting.
Gyokudo is noted for his polychrome and occasionally monochrome works depicting the mountains and rivers of Japan in the four seasons, with humans and animals shown as part of the natural landscape. Among his representative works are Futsuka zuki (“The New Moon”), Yuku haru (“The Departing Spring”), Mine-no-yu (“Evening at the Mountain Top”), and Bosetsu (“Snow in the Evening”).

The painting comprise individual shapes which are painted in a precise and systematic manner that does not leave any empty space. The complexity of the paintings is inevitable as each of the strokes, lines, gradations, the characters or the subjects forms a delicate unity that finely balances the figure-filled canvas. Various gradations of colors separate different sections of the painting. The landscape is enticing and endless.

A beautiful Turkish all-silk or “silk on silk” area rug with a "Garden Design". The Rug is in the shade of rust-red field color with a design of flowers and birds, in blue, green, yellow, brown, and cream colors. There is a central medallion in a cream color. The Turkish silk Hereke has a cream color border with a design of flowers and birds throughout. The rug is truly an artisan creation well suited for display on the wall. The Turkish Hereke Silk Rugs are renowned for their beautiful design and the use of extremely fine weaving techniques and have a very high knot count.

These paintings often reveal Batuan’s cultural life, directly through their elements of line, shape, and tone. Meticulous design, craftsmanship, and strong visual impression are characteristic of the style.
The painting comprise individual shapes which are painted in a precise and systematic manner that does not leave any empty space.
