This wonderful Black Forest armchair by Matthijs Horrix for Horrix Den Haag is in very good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. The Horrix company was established in Den Haag or The Hague and gained fame during the so-called eclectic period during the 19th Century. Their work was inspired by older styles of furniture but with fashionable features that was then considered new. The company also made Rustic style furniture that was very popular in the Northern Countries and England. History
Lawrence “Larry” Peabody (1924-2002) was an architect, interior designer, and furniture designer. As an American born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his distinctive design were often influenced by his Scandinavian roots. Lawrence studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark and at the Rhode Island School of Design. His early career with Selig Mfg. Co. was prolific and helped put both himself and Selig on the map for modern furniture. He then started Lawrence Peabody & Associates in 1955, a design firm in Boston which included a vast client list (Sears, Roebuck & Co., Kohler, Regal Rugs, Boyd Lighting, Chapman Lamps, and Richardson Brothers).
In 1961, Mr. Peabody won a Citation for Merit for his Peabody Collection for Richardson/ Nemschoff. Winner of the 1962 International A.I.D. design award for his wood frame rattan cradle...

The Cocom Rocking Chair features a simple and lightweight structure with smooth, rounded lines, combined with meticulous handcrafted weaving. Made by a family of artisans from Bacalar, the weaving uses the "ojo de perdiz" technique with cotton or nylon thread.
This piece is part of the Cocom Collection, which blends tradition and modernity, elevating craftsmanship to its highest expression with attention to detail. Various endemic tropical woods from southern Mexico are used, giving each piece a vibrant tropical personality.
Inspired by traditional wicker rocking chairs and armchairs from Yucatán, the Cocom Collection aims to preserve and revitalize this artisanal legacy.
