Eastlake's Hints on Household Taste of 1868 featured a cabinet designed by him and exhibited by Heaton, Butler & Bayne but probably made by the Art Furniture Co. Godwin designed 16 pieces of furniture for the firm in Japanese and Gothic Revival styles. His Anglo-Japanese buffet (illus. Walnut Armchair with Hand Carved Lion Head and Swan Sculptures as Armrests
Walnut Armchair with Hand Carved Lion Head and Swan Sculptures as Armrests

Walnut Armchair with Hand Carved Lion Head and Swan Sculptures as Armrests

Located in Lisse, NL

One of a kind and highly decorative Gothic chair from the late 1800s. If you are looking for unique and meaningful antiques to decorate your home then this sculptural and amazing workmanship chair could be perfect for you. All handcrafted in Europe in the late 1800s this striking chair is another perfect example of the highest level of workmanship that furniture makers and sculptors were combining in those days. This marvelous chair has everything that you want to see in antique and decorative art. The overall design is perfectly balanced and the frame of this chair is solely made out of a beautifully warm colored, solid walnut. Besides that this unique chair is as strong and stable as the day it was handcrafted and very comfortable to sit in. Both the beautiful walnut and the stunning antique fabric are in very good to excellent condition. However, what makes this antique chair a real masterpiece are the glorious animal carvings. Firstly, the good size lion head on the front rule comes with majestic manes and his eyes have a human-like quality to them. Secondly and most importantly are the amazing swan head and tail sculptures. Swan head sculptures in wood are extremely rare and to have found a chair with a pair of perfectly hand carved and mint condition swan heads (and necks) as armrests and with tails on either side of the backrest more than made our day. If you have a good eye for rare details then, we think, you will especially love the perfect nose holes, but also the hand carved wooden swan tail-ends. With swans symbolizing a number of great qualities and combined with the elements of water and air also being a symbol for eternal life and the circle of life, they embody a deeper meaning that makes this antique simply exquisite. Finally, the seat and back are upholstered with a finest quality and classical European antique fabric...

Klismos Black Leather Wood Saber Legs Armchairs Customizable Colors & Upholstery

Located in IT

Klismos customizable armchairs with saber legs, black lacquered wood and black plain leather seats. Available in other colors and different upholstery. Italian artisanal production by Pescetta Home Decoration. Walnut wood armchairs with deep and large seat and back wraparound feeling backrest. These armchairs are made in Italy. They are realized according to the historical model named "Klismos" which is a type of ancient Greek chair, very often depicted on ancient furniture or on painted pottery and in bas-reliefs from the mid-5th century BCE onwards. The simple and elegant lines of the saber legs have been proposed and reconsidered several times during the home decoration history, making it a chair without age and never out of fashion. The long and elegant curve for the backrest is quite difficult to be created and it is obtained from a single piece of wood. They are extremely comfortable and wraparound, the seat is large and deep allowing them to be suitable in a meeting room, as well in the dining room or used as desk chairs. Since we realize both chairs and armchairs you can mix chairs...
