Minimalist Outdoor Lounge Chair, Brazilian Design

By SIMONINI

Located in Vila Cordeiro, São Paulo

This outdoor lounge chair or armchair, the multi-finish structure is combined with outdoor fabrics such as the Batyline to create an interesting outdoor solution. Bellow the full Skyfolding collection concept: Skyfolding In-Outdoor collection, the collection concept is inspired by the asian building scaffoldings, where a structure is composed by bamboo sticks crossed to create this inspiring and fascinating structures. We combined elements of this structures and also references from the ballet stretching bars that often combine metal and wood, this combo is the concept very soul. All the figurative elements are abstracted in the design process to extract the precise best of each world, and by then resulting in a collection of delicate objects, cult and curated to the minimum details, in design and engeneering. The collection is composed by outdoor net, batyline or plastic, in a portion leaving room to a more soft design approach that is harmonious, this elements are combined to a structure made of wood and metal that transcends to tech and soft, a paradigm of past, present and future that invite all the viewers to contemplate and reflect in this philosophical matters in a tactile and visual way. Resulting is a essencial and timeless set of objects...

Designed by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, modern Brazilian sofa, iron, and velvet. Brazil, circa 1950s. Shell or "Concha" sofa is made of iron and recently reupholstered in yellow velvet by the experienced craftsmen in our team. The upholstery was chosen considering the contemporary proposal of the piece. The sofa features a comfortable seat, clean design, and freedom of user movements and is constructed in a frame with metal rods elegantly positioned to give strength to the piece, a common trait of designers. The buttons velvet coated between seat and backs were used, by the designers, for an excellent velvet finish, and the restoration proposal was to maintain them. Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner were the primary designers for the iconic Brazilian furniture...

Brazilian Modern "Concha" Loveseat in Metal & Brass-Toned Fabric, Carlo Hauner

Brazilian Modern "Concha" Loveseat in Metal & Brass-Toned Fabric, Carlo Hauner

By Carlo Hauner

Located in New York, NY

Designed by Carlo Hauner and produced by Forma Móveis in 1955, the Concha loveseat is one of the most recognizable and sculpturally expressive seating designs of the Brazilian Modern movement. Conceived during a period of extraordinary innovation in Brazilian furniture design, the model exemplifies Hauner’s mastery of organic form, technical restraint, and architectural elegance. Named Concha—the Portuguese word for “shell”—the loveseat is distinguished by its enveloping silhouette, which appears to unfold organically around the sitter. The continuous upholstered body flows seamlessly from the backrest into the sculpted arms and generously curved seat, creating a unified volume that balances softness and structure. Viewed from any angle, the design reveals a remarkable sense of movement and fluidity, transforming a functional object into a sculptural statement. The piece rests on an elegant blackened iron base composed of slender intersecting rods. The visual lightness of the metal framework creates a striking contrast to the generous upholstered form above, emphasizing the floating quality that defines many of the finest Brazilian modernist designs of the 1950s. This sophisticated interplay between organic volume and industrial precision reflects the influence of both Italian modernism and Brazil’s emerging design identity during the postwar era. Recently reupholstered, the loveseat is presented in a richly textured brass-toned fabric that enhances the sculptural character of the design. The upholstery features a refined woven surface with subtle tonal variation, combining warm camel, antique brass, and champagne undertones. The fabric captures light beautifully, producing a gentle luster that shifts across the curved surfaces while highlighting the loveseat’s distinctive contours. Its tactile texture adds depth and visual richness while maintaining a clean, tailored appearance consistent with the original design intent. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Concha offers exceptional comfort. The deeply pitched backrest, supportive seat, and embracing arm profile create an inviting seating experience while preserving the elegant proportions for which the model is celebrated. The result is a rare balance of ergonomic comfort and architectural sophistication. Increasingly difficult to acquire, original examples of Carlo Hauner’s Concha...

Walnut and Corian Gallery Bench Mid-Century Modern inspired Minimal Handmade
Walnut and Corian Gallery Bench Mid-Century Modern inspired Minimal Handmade

Walnut and Corian Gallery Bench Mid-Century Modern inspired Minimal Handmade

By Figure Ground, Le Corbusier, Maarten van Severen, George Nakashima

Located in Brooklyn, NY

This bench is composed of a Corian top floating on an elegantly detailed walnut frame. It is large enough for one's imagination or a group conversation. Spanning 7' long, it commands environments while subtly disappearing like its double miter joints that waterfall into the walnut grain. The bench is sawn from long hand-selected boards, carefully milled with a miter joint detail that cascades or 'waterfalls' a continuous grain from the seat down through the legs. To further accentuate the bench's slender span, we chose a double miter cut on the edge profile that almost makes the Bench's thickness at first glance disappear. The white-to-walnut bench refines the moment of repose. Its minimalism is as seductive as its touch to the senses. This bench is versatile and can just as easily define a vestibule or gallery window as it will sit aside a matching dining table. Finished in Tung oil it maintains a natural look and feel for the locally sourced black walnut. This item is available in custom sizes or finishes upon request. Due to natural materials used, the object received will be unique in material figuring and coloration. No item assembly or installation is necessary. Care for the object is minimal and can be conditioned every 2 years to maintain the original finish. All of our pieces are originally designed and handmade in the Brooklyn, NY based Figure+Ground studio; we don't believe in the separation of design and fabrication. Each item is handcrafted, serialized, and shipped with a “Certificate of Authenticity”, documenting its place in history. Own an original Figure+Ground Piece...

Rosewood & Cognac Leather Mp-163 "Earth" Loveseat & Ottoman by Percival Lafer

By Percival Lafer

Located in Chattanooga, TN

We've had several Percival Lafer sofas and chairs over the years, and this MP-163 "Earth" model is by far the most comfortable. The scoop style and high-back design cradles and supports the body all the way up to the head. To put it simply, it has a "gangster lean". The scoop allows your butt to sink down with a slight elevation of your legs. High enough for tall people to have head support, and low enough for short people to have their feet planted firmly on the floor. It's a time-capsule quality loveseat & ottoman that should be in the museum of Brazilian Modern Design. Procured from the original owner who purchased in Oregon in the late 70s, where it sat virtually untouched for decades. This reddish cognac leather is really the quintessentially perfect color for the style and tone of the solid rosewood frames. As tasteful and inviting today as it was 4 decades ago, the diamond-sewn and pinch-tufted upholstery drips with texture and character. This parquet patchwork of square, interlocking panels covers the fronts, while the back has a smoother curve of stretched leather that nestles onto the frame. The leather has been thoroughly cleaned and conditioned. The color and texture are uniform throughout with no visible discoloration. Complete matching living room group with 3-seater sofa, lounge chair and end tables are available and sold separately. Please inquire for details and pricing. The diffuse use of local woods, the strength and hardness of his elegant designs and the warm colors of his fabrics and leathers, make him a fundamental figure in the evolution and affirmation of Brazilian design, both inside and outside the country’s borders.
