Vintage Mid-Century Swiss Modern Leather & Bent Wood Lounge Chair from Giroflex
By Giroflex Stoll, Martin Stoll
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This elegant executive armchair was designed by Martin Stoll for the Swiss manufacturer Stoll Giroflex during the 1960s. The molded, rounded frame is made of bent wood and finished in a warm colored walnut with visible regular grain. The seat, armrest and backrest are upholstered in black natural leather. The rotating five-armed leg is made of metal. The armchair is very comfortable. It is a classic design, which in its form refers to the icon of design: the lounge chair by Ray and Charles Eames. The history of the Stoll Giroflex company dates back to 1872, when Albert Stoll...

De Sede DS-707 Sofa in Atom Kvadrat Upholstery by Philippe Malouin
By De Sede, Philippe Malouin
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The DS-707 is the modern composition of handmade leather and contemporary design. The flowing, soft transitions combine the postmodern era of Swiss furniture design with the clear open structures of brutalism that inspired designer Philippe Malouin. Available as a comfortable armchair or as a modular sofa that can be combined in infinite ways, the DS-707 is the visual perfection of form that gives every room a unique highlight. Where the St. Lawrence River Montreal flows in a serpentine pattern, a residential complex marked by the architectural style of brutalism rises up on a small headland, the famous Habitat 67. 354 concrete blocks arranged in a stepped pattern adorn a part of Montreal’s multifaceted skyline, designed by architect Moshe Safdie...

De Sede DS 80 Daybed in Teak Upholstery by De Sede Design Team
By De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Feet up and just unwind, our DS-80 relocates sleep to the daytime hours, the time when we are supposed to be active and getting things done. Its subtle appearance reminds us to take a relaxing break from our hectic everyday lives once in a while, and that’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of. The modest dimensions of the daybed are a benefit here, as they gently force you to spend some time on your own. Part of the basic furnishings of any upscale interior in the 1920s, the flat daybed has been enjoying a Renaissance for several years now. Our daybed caused a stir more than 30 years ago, with its elaborate patchwork processing and freely place able back cushions. This timeless Classic has now been gently updated. It is available both as a daybed and as a small lounge sofa, too. The daybed doubles as a lounge sofa The daybed DS-80 has established itself as a timeless Classic by De Sede ever since it was launched in 1969: to this day, the model is a paradigm of high-class leather manufacture and popular all-over the world. To be honest, we’re not quite sure which we like better: the newly produced models or the 50-year-old sculptures...

18th Century Folk Art Carved Chair Swiss Alp History Escabelle Tyrolean Sgabello
Located in London, GB
A special, remarkably decorative, extremely rare and wonderfully striking antique European folk-art carved chair in lovely antique condition. Most likely made around 1770 in the Swiss Alps, this fabulous museum-quality historical artefact is a stunningly carved and still very usable chair, which will add a fabulously rustic, Alpine folk-art aesthetic as well as cultural interest, artistic charm and historic fascination to any interior. An incredibly rare and special chair, this was traditionally handcrafted from quality solid wood and has a charming walnut single-piece trapezoid seat displaying lovely grain, which the eight-sided legs slot into at an angle, and the back vertically. The legs are likely made from oak with the show-stopping back carved from fruitwood. A truly captivating chair, the standout feature is its extraordinary pierce-relief carved back, which casts a stunning silhouette, and its carving depicts two intertwining figure-of-eight snakes set on a shapely plinth, topped by a carved and 1471 dated crown design. Crafted in two parts, the folk-art back carving is wonderfully detailed and vernacular in style, and the pierce-relief carving denotes it as being particularly old and rare and differentiates it from later Alpine chairs, which feature solid backs onto which decorations are carved. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE The Middle Ages were particularly turbulent in the Swiss Alps, as post-Roman feudal factions competed for power for more than a millennium in this important land, which intersected the larger powers of Italy, France, Germany and Austria. We believe this chair was most likely made in 1771 and that its 1471 date carving commemorated three-hundred years of the Three Leagues Alliance, (1471-1779), a coalition of three political leagues of free peoples which was created to bring about strength, unity and peace to the people in the warring Swiss Alps region (think William Tell, the revolutionary Swiss folk hero, who stood up for the peasantry against tithe-taking feudal barons in the Swiss Alps, and who was first referenced in 1474.) The free people of the Swiss Alps would have well known that peace for them and their entire region was not only brought about by, but also largely depended on, the Three Leagues Alliance, and so commemorating its inauguration date of 1471 is more than fitting for a craftsman from this region. And as snakes symbolise healing and protection, their use in conjunction with the 1471 commemorative date perfectly displays what the Swiss Alp craftsman was memorializing when creating this fascinating chair. Similar chairs can be referred to as Swiss, German, Alpine, Alsatian, Tyrolean, Sgabello or Escabelle chairs...

Ubald Klug DS-1025 "Terrazza" Sofa for De Sede, Brown Leather, 1974, Set of 2
By De Sede, Ubald Klug
Located in Lonigo, Veneto
Ubald Klug DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofas for De Sede, brown leather, Switzerland, 1974, set of two. Ubald Klug designed this rare modular DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofa as a real living landscape. Each element recalls a terrace-like, stepped slope with different widths and depths. A valley or a mountain can appear depending on how the individual modules are assembled. The "Terrazza" was recreated thanks to the De Sede manufacturer and its ability to transform high-quality leather into seating furniture. This multi-layered upholstered relief invites people to sit or lie down, combining durability and comfort with a unique design. After training at the Art and Design College in Zurich, Ulbald Klug (1932) gained further experience in architectural practices in Zurich and Helsinki. Paris has been his sphere of activity since 1966, when he founded his architecture and interior design bureau. Klug proved himself successful at finding solutions to different challenges and developed non-conformist solutions - from furniture design, to concepts for urban installations, to architectural prototypes...

De Sede DS-159 Three-Seat Sofa in Paris Blue Upholstery by De Sede Design Team
By De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The straight, simple and at the same time light design creates a noble piece of seating furniture that is a cabi net piece of upholstery craftsmanship. Its characteristic feature is the elaborate capitoning of the seat and back rest with leather buttons and piping. Individually design able seat combinations and sofa systems with individual elements measuring 80 x 80 cm make it possible – by the assisting couch- and hanging tables - to set perfect living accents. The DS-159 signifies by its clear, reduced design a cabinet piece of the upholstery handicraft. The form language of the cubic model appears noble and light at the same time. Whoever sits down in a DS-159 will immediately fall in love with the harmonious interplay of seating comfort and elegance. If you haven’t been fascinated until then, at the very latest the elaborate capitonation will definitely enchant you and will not let go anymore. Like that inexplicable power that fills our hearts - love - the modular extension options have a multi-faceted effect, as if you were getting to know your loved ones anew every day. Whether as an armchair, a sofa or in an unmistakable interplay with couch and hanging tables: perfectly coordinated seating combinations create a seating combination that has rightly become a cabinet piece of Swiss master...

DeSede DS-747/40 Multifunctional Sofa in Noce Leather Seat and Back Upholstery
By De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Once upon a time, there was a master saddler with his mind set on taking bulky, thick leather and using his perfect craftsmanship to make it comfortable and cozy. For genera-tions, the legacy of what Ernst Lüthy created when he established de Sede in the 1960s has been reflected in DS-747: form follows function. Be it sitting, sleeping, dining or relaxing – thanks to its essence of excellence, this all-rounder offers optimum functionality: with a few easy flicks of the wrist, the armrests can be tilted independently of each other and the soft seating surfaces enlarged. The exposed back lends DS-747 its lightness as a small sculpture with a high function – a sofa created to sit not on but in. A marvel in three dimensions, DS-747 is perfectly suited for small spaces or city apartments. If visitors spontaneously decide to stay longer, this elegant yet compact sofa offers an outstand-ing place to sleep – the armrests can be folded down with a few very easy flicks of the wrist. A sophisticated mechanism can be used to enlarge the seating surface, while the deliberately exposed back offers a glimpse into the functions of DS-747. The multifunctional sofa...
