Bargueño or litter bin in Italian style. Tortoiseshell, bone, wood. XVII century.
Rectangular litter bin of uncovered sample slightly raised on circular legs, decorated with marquetry of simple geometric motifs on the top and the two sides (where, in addition, there are handles that still maintain part of their gilding), and with a front with three drawers (two smaller upstairs; all with key locks) decorated with pairs of tortoiseshell rectangles enhanced with bands of bone tinted with plant and geometric elements simulating four drawers in total. Note also the metal corner pieces (again, with traces of gilding), finished off with trefoil motifs. Compare, for example, with the litter bin in the National Museum of Decorative Arts from the 17th century, which is similar on both sides (although it has a central chapel); several very similar ones located in private Spanish collections (some called “Carlos II...
