Magificent Dutch 'Daniel Marot' Baroque Walnut Burr Cabinet on Stand, circa 1720
By Daniel Marot
Located in Amsterdam, NL
The Marot cabinet
A Magnificent Walnut Burr Cabinet on stand or 'kruisvoetkabinet' in the style of Daniel Marot
Circa 1720, probably made for George Clifford III in Amsterdam or the Hague
The cabinet is one of the rarest examples of a so-called Kruisvoetkabinet, which is translated to Cabinet on stand. The cabinet is raised on a stand with eight legs and tree drawers. Below the drawers and on the sides are five carved ornaments. The hollow formed corners are mounted with carved ornaments too. The upper part of the cabinet has two doors decorated with panels and on each door two carved ornaments in Marot style. The cabinet has a double dome top.The interior of the cabinet has tree shelves and five drawers. The brass fittings and handles are original and finished with gilt lacquer. The cabinet is made of oak and veneered with burr walnut. The carvings, turned parts and the ball feet are made of solid walnut.
This cabinet is a unique piece of Dutch furniture. Cabinets on stand became popular in the third quarter of the 17th century and were made until the second quarter of the 18th century. Most of the dutch cabinets on stand...

Antique Liegoise Country French Buffet, Linen Press
Located in Dallas, TX
Antique Liegoise Country French buffet ~ linen press is a remarkable example of the incredibly high quality of furnishings produced in the storied region around Liege. A manufacturing and marketing center for hundreds of years, it lies in the French speaking southeastern portion of what is today called Belgium. The traditions of the finest hand-craftsmanship predate the last several geopolitical designations, with techniques that produced sturdy pieces from the local old-growth oak. This example combines styling influence from the Louis XIII, Louis XIV and Louis XV styles, spanning over two centuries of artistic expression in wood. The wood has been painstakingly stripped using our proprietary process that retains the natural patina of the wood and presents a soft presence in the room. Mitered corners and a step-front center section produce visual appeal from all angles. Two commodious cabinets and a total of six spacious drawers attain a functionality that makes it extremely versatile. Cast brass key guards accentuate the facade, which includes a center tier of bowfront drawers...

Antique French Renaissance Armoire Linen Press Library Bookcase China Cabinet
Located in Dayton, OH
An exquisite French Renaissance Revival Bibliotheque, Linen press or display cabinet. Circa mid 19th cenutry. A large rectangular oak case centered by original 3/4 length glass between turned and fluted columns. Lower side of doors features an inset baroque cartouche with fruit basket and foliate motif within an arched deisgn. Upper molding is stylized with a dentil molding over acanthus frieze. Opens to four adjustable shelves. Case is supported by bun feet.
With large full length doors, we often look at antique armoires as passageways to secret rooms or even different worlds. While most antique armoires don’t take us to a different dimension, they nonetheless add incredible charm and beauty to both new and old homes alike.
Before closets were built into rooms, a solid wood free-standing wardrobe or “armoire” (French for Wardrobe) was standard for storing clothes. However, not all could afford such a luxury, and many antique wardrobes belonged to the upper classes who owned more than one set of clothes.
Thus, on antique armoires from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, we often see artistic embellishments and luxurious details. Antique French armoires often have Rococo or Gothic carvings, mirrored doors and naturalistic carvings. These feminine elements on antique French armoires demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship and artistry afforded only by the rich.
The phrase Knock-down referes to the ability for these pieces to be easily disassembled and re-assembled. This allowed for these massive...

Fine Dutch Baroque Double Domed Walnut Cabinet
Located in Antwerp, BE
A very fine and rare burr walnut and walnut double domed cupboard; Holland, circa 1700.
Resting on bracket feet, the base has two large drawers a pair of half - width drawers, protruding on the bottom and inlaid with cross banded geometric ornament. The doors have elegant protruding curly serpentine - shaped walnut ornament and are topped with finely carved low - relief walnut lambrequins in the Régence style under the double domed cornice.
Each dome has an elegant molding transforming in its centre into a richly carved bracket.
Together with the flat - topped corners and centre, these were meant to support a Chinese porcelain or Delft glazed earthenware set of 5 blue - and -white vases, called a ' kaststel ' in Dutch.
The interior is typically executed in oak, with three interior drawers and shelves behind the cupboard doors.
As was often the case, the bronze handles and keyholes were replaced later in the 18th century by more contemporary Louis XVI models. The interior drawers however, where it was not felt important as they were invisible when the doors were closed, still keep their original handles.
The double dome is a rare feature in Dutch walnut cabinets...
