French School Patinated Bronze of a Resting Dachshund

Located in West Palm Beach, FL

French School Patinated Bronze Dachshund Sculpture This finely cast French School patinated bronze dachshund sculpture beautifully captures the breed’s signature charm and elegance. Expertly cast in bronze with a rich dark patina, this work highlights remarkable detail, from the dachshund’s expressive eyes and floppy ears to the sleek contours of its elongated body and poised stance. The smooth yet subtly textured surface enhances its lifelike quality, making it a captivating decorative sculpture. Standing 9.75 inches high, 17 inches wide, and 5 inches deep, this substantial bronze piece has a commanding presence while maintaining a refined and understated elegance. The artist’s attention to anatomical accuracy and naturalistic posture makes it an excellent representation of the beloved breed. Ideal for dog enthusiasts, collectors of fine bronzes, or admirers of French animalier sculpture...

Henley Royal Regatta, Grand Challenge Cup Rowing Oar 1874
Henley Royal Regatta, Grand Challenge Cup Rowing Oar 1874

Henley Royal Regatta, Grand Challenge Cup Rowing Oar 1874

Located in Oxfordshire, GB

12' Eton College Henley Royal Regatta Presentation Oar, 1874. A fine and historically significant presentation oar blade, commemorating the Eton College Eight who competed at the Henley Royal Regatta of 1874, contesting the Grand Challenge Cup and the Ladies' Challenge Plate. This full-length oar, painted in Eton's pale blue with gilded lettering, measures just over 12 feet and is a classic example of the commemorative oars traditionally presented to college rowing crews. The blade features elegant 19th-century script listing the names and weights of the 1874 Eton crew. A beautiful and authentic antique oar, presented in original condition, it represents a fine and historic piece of Eton and Henley rowing heritage. It was possibly the former property of A.J. Mulholland or T.C. Edwards-Moss, as a second oar from the same source is available separately and bears the pair's names. Both men later rowed for Oxford University in the Boat Race, with Mulholland competing once (1877) and Edwards-Moss four times (1875-78). The 1877 Boat Race-in which both took part-remains the only dead heat in the event's history. A remarkable piece of Eton rowing...

Barcelona Olympic Football Mascot Cobi (1992) by Javier Mariscal
Barcelona Olympic Football Mascot Cobi (1992) by Javier Mariscal

Barcelona Olympic Football Mascot Cobi (1992) by Javier Mariscal

By Javier Mariscal

Located in London, GB

The 1992 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXV Olympiad, were held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, from 25 July to 9 August 1992. Commonly referred to as Barcelona '92, these games were notable for being the last Summer and Winter Olympics to be held in the same year, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided thereafter to alternate the events in separate even-numbered years, starting in 1994. This was a pivotal moment in Olympic history, as the Barcelona Games marked the first Summer Olympics held in the post-Cold War era and were free from the boycotts that had plagued previous events, a situation not seen since the 1972 Munich Olympics. Barcelona '92 is widely regarded as one of the most successful Olympic Games, contributing significantly to the modernization and global image of the city. It was also a Games of many firsts: the debut of the "Dream Team" in basketball, which featured NBA players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, and the reintegration of South Africa into the international sports community after a 32-year ban due to apartheid. The participation of a unified German team following the reunification of East and West Germany, and the absence of the Soviet Union (though its former republics competed as the Unified Team), further emphasized the geopolitical shifts of the time. The official mascot for the 1992 Barcelona Games was *Cobi*, a stylized sheepdog designed by Catalan artist and designer Javier Mariscal. Mariscal, already a significant figure in contemporary design, was known for his eclectic and playful style, often blending comic art with a modernist sensibility. His creation of Cobi was a departure from previous Olympic mascots...
