Verdy Jake (Navajo, b. 1970s)
Verdy Jake has been an active Navajo silversmith since the 1990s, known for her dedication to traditional revival jewelry. Raised in a large family of thirteen children, she was introduced to silversmithing through her eldest brother, who first learned the craft and later taught his siblings, including Verdy.
She continues to live and work in Smith Lake on the Navajo Nation, creating pieces that reflect both cultural heritage and refined craftsmanship. Her hallmark is “V” or “Verdy.”
Verdy is especially recognized for her ability to evoke the look and feel of antique Navajo jewelry. As collector Barry Simpson notes:
