Gump's Jade Pocket Knife

About the Item

You know the expression, "for the man who has everything"? Well, there's actually no such thing as a man—or a woman—who has everything. Not as long as this sleek and jewel-like jade pocket knife remains in my possession. Crafted by the iconic (and one of the oldest) knife manufacturers in the world, Zwilling J. A. Henckels, and sold exclusively through Gump's San Francisco, this svelte, gorgeous pocket knife is remarkable in every way. The steel knife and its associated compartment are in absolutely flawless condition with no corrosion or filth of any kind. The blades are as sharp as the day they were forged. They gleam like moonlight on a black lake. Two matching plaques of nephrite jade encase the knife. And both are of superlative quality. Though I haven't had them laboratory tested for their origin, they are microscopically consistent in appearance with very fine Siberian jade from the Ural mountains of Russia. This looks to me to be the same nephrite Carl Faberge used. Gump's manufactured (sub-contracted) their own line of jade jewelry and accessories but they also carried vintage jade items and fine specialty items such as this knife, which they did not manufacture or hallmark. They did, however, package the knife in their own custom Gump's leather pouch, which I have never seen used for any other Gump's item. This is the perfect little knife to keep in your purse or pocket for those moments when you *need a knife* but are not near a kitchen. Like when you're in your car sitting in a parking lot and you can't open the box of hipster chocolates because they have taken packaging to a stratospheric new level. This knife can cut clean through all the clutter and get to the good stuff right away. The knife is 2-3/4" long when closed and about 1/2" wide. With both blades extended (why would you?) it's 6" long. The blades show little —if any at all —signs of use. These days, many of us are flying less. Which means we can be retro and carry a pocket knife again. And if you're going to carry a pocket knife, carry the best: a jade pocket knife from Gump's.
