Natural Game, Figurative, Bronze & Wood by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Subrata Paul - Natural Game Bronze & Wood, H 21 x W 26 x D 7 inches About : Subrata Paul ( b 1972) is one of the empanelled sculptors of Abundant Art Gallery. Subrata Paul’s favoured materials are bronze embellished with wood. His signature fusion of the two different materials with his stitching style lends an unique texture to his sculptures. Our collection, includes some of his remarkable creations including “Fish”, “Goat” and “Bull”.Paul’s ‘Fish’ represents contrasting characteristics. The Buddha like drooping eyes of the ‘Fish’ is contrasted paradoxically against the frenzied fins, reminding us of Medusa’s dishevelled hair. Calmness and restlessness in one form, the ‘Fish’ resembles the life force. It is a metaphor for the inner human strength to swim against the tide of adversities. His ‘The King’ represents an imperial image. The statute is looking towards heaven, as if seeking some inspiration to perform his royal duties. His crown is like a crown of thorns. It is not a pleasant task but it has to be performed. His attire declares he has to modify his own life into the straightjacket of his royal duties. Another creation of his, ‘Bull’ recalls the interpretation of a bison of the Altamira cave paintings. Paul’s ‘Meditation’ series defines peace in different perspectives through various aspects of Buddha figures. Inspired by sculptors such as Sunil Kumar Das...

Mirror Couple, Acrylic on Canvas, Painting, Red, Green, Blue Colors "In Stock"
By Farhad Hussain
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Farhad Hussain - Mirror Couple : 36 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of the middle class urban India. He endows his narrative with an iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture, has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns. Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used through out Farhad’s work is the method of applying colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression. About the Artist and his works : Born : 1975 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Education : 2003 : B.F.A. in painting from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, 2005 : M.F.A. in painting from M.S. University, Baroda. Woman Face with Braid Dry Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Woman Face with Braid, Dry Pastel on Paper 10 x 6.3 inches , 2022 ( this is the unframed size ) The work will be shipped inclusive of framing. Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised – the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. About the Artist and his work : Born : Born 1939 in Daharpara Village, Faridpur, Bangladesh. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. Family Background : His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury’s father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Education : 1955-60: Studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata. 1965 : He went to paris to study in Ecole des Beaux Arts, in William Hayter’s Atelier 17. Professional Experience : 1968-72 : He worked as an Art-Designer, Madras Handloom Board, Madras. 1970 : A collection of his poems were published, titled ‘Hridoy Train Beje Othey’. 1987 : Joined Kala Bhavan , Santiniketan as a professor of painting. Selected Exhibitions : 1972, 1975 & 1978 respectively : I, III, IV Triennales at New Delhi. 1979: The Sao Paolo Biennale. 1980: The exhibitions at the Fukuoka Museum, Japan. 1982: The Royal Academy, London. 1982: The Hirschhorn Museum, Washington D.C. 1986: The II Havana Biennale. 1989: ‘Festival of India’, in Geneva. 2002: Saffron...

Aradhana-22, Acrylic on Canvas Red by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Anil Kumar Yadav - Aradhana-22 - 72 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism.
