Brocade: Bootas (Motifs) - Embroidered Tapestry Wall Hanging

Located in Asheville, NC

Brocade: The royal courts of the Maharajas of India were symbols of extravagance. The opulent Brocade or Zari textile was used lavishly to ornament the interiors. Brocade is a heavy weight drape, woven in intricate raised patterns of motifs or all over floral scrolls. What grants this fabric its royal stature is the use of gold and silver metal threads to weave the designs. These wall panels depict the rich affluent luxury of the Brocade. Gold corded thread embroidered on deep plush velvet creates raised patterns. The artwork is designed to exaggerate the opulence. A note on handmade: A handmade product is always appealing due to the irregularities in its workmanship. This is what sets it apart from machine made or computerized; the perfection they offer feels synthetic or artificial. Especially when one speaks of art and craft. These wall panels are works of hand worked embroideries. Imperfections such as an occasional puckering of the base material are expected with the kind of embroidery stitches used. You are assured these artworks are embroidered by highly skilled artisans (it is not possible for craftsmen of lesser experience to create these pieces) The materials used for the embroideries are of superior quality only. By Dipen Bose

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Rare Collectible by Bengal School Artist Artist : Dipen Bose Medium : Watercolours on paper Size : 7.5 x 5 inches Paintings on both sides of the paper. Extraordinary and Unique. Here the master artist shows very subtly the command he has over the brush. The dramatic effect that Monotone watercolours created, to play and tantalise all of our senses. Effortlessly executed, one cannot miss the expertise and uniqueness in the works. Even the less dense watercolours, speaks to its viewers. Its never been easier to connect with watercolours and its essence. Bengal Master Artist Dipen Bose (1921-1964)  Born in Calcutta, West Bengal. Education : Self-taught artist with no academic training in art. 1942 Completed Graduation, Calcutta. Grandfather, Nagendra Bose inspired him to start painting. Learnt the technique of oil painting from artist Debi Prasad Roychowdhury. 1947 Started to paint after giving up his job at Central Excise Service, Calcutta. His association with the Indian Institute of Art and Industry and Indian Society of Oriental Art played a vital role in his life. He was close to Indra Dugar. Associated with Art in Industry and Rachana till 1952. These associations inspired him towards traditional Indian Art, French Impressionism and Chinese Art. 1953 His painting was presented to the President, Federal Republic of Germany by Govt. of India. Nude Woman, Pastel on Paper by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"

By Sanatan Dinda

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Sanatan Dinda - Nude Woman - 28 x 20 inches (unframed size) Pastel on Paper, 2010 shipment without frame Style : Sanatan Dinda discovers the beautiful amidst the ruins of a dilapidated city; his work becomes lyrical while he puts his signature on the curves and cleavages of sculpted human bodies. Born in the intestines of North Kolkata, the lanes and by lanes of Kumartuli, the squalor and the dirt, the refinement and nuances of a traditional craft of idol-making, the ancient river, the lonely bathing places taught him everything. Poverty all around, Sanatan had enough courage, even in his formative years, to convince himself that eternity could be invented, here and now, in a day. His art, both sculpture and painting, engages in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Today, his work can be considered to be a prime example of contemporary Bengali visual culture. For last few years, Sanatan has been trying to stress upon traditional clay-sculpting – primarily the local popular sculpture...

Jaali: Jaali' of Urdu origin meaning netting, is an ornamental open work originally crafted on wood, metal and stone for interiors. A significant feature of Indo-Islamic art, the Jaali is an intricate pattern ranging from delicate trellises to complex floral layouts. A note on handmade: A handmade product is always appealing due to the irregularities in its workmanship. Fish, Figurative, Bronze & Wood by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal

Subrata Paul - Fish Bronze & Wood, H 31 x W 27 x D 8 inches About : Subrata Paul ( b 1972) is one of the empanelled sculptors of Abundant Art Gallery. Subrata Paul’s favoured materials are bronze embellished with wood. His signature fusion of the two different materials with his stitching style lends an unique texture to his sculptures. Our collection, includes some of his remarkable creations including “Fish”, “Goat” and “Bull”.Paul’s ‘Fish’ represents contrasting characteristics. The Buddha like drooping eyes of the ‘Fish’ is contrasted paradoxically against the frenzied fins, reminding us of Medusa’s dishevelled hair. Calmness and restlessness in one form, the ‘Fish’ resembles the life force. It is a metaphor for the inner human strength to swim against the tide of adversities. His ‘The King’ represents an imperial image. The statute is looking towards heaven, as if seeking some inspiration to perform his royal duties. His crown is like a crown of thorns. It is not a pleasant task but it has to be performed. His attire declares he has to modify his own life into the straightjacket of his royal duties. Another creation of his, ‘Bull’ recalls the interpretation of a bison of the Altamira cave paintings. Paul’s ‘Meditation’ series defines peace in different perspectives through various aspects of Buddha figures. Inspired by sculptors such as Sunil Kumar Das...
