Anil Kumar Yadav - Aradhana-76 Acrylic on Canvas 36 x 48 inches, 2024 ( Rolled & Delivered ) STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism. Kartick Chandra Pyne - Laxmi's Consort 19 x 14.5 inches (unframed size) Watercolour on Thick Imported Paper, 2003 ( Unframed & Delivered ) Style : After graduating from the Government College of Art and Crafts, Calcutta in 1955 Pyne began to move away from the tenets of both classical Indian and Western art to respond to the beckoning of his own artistic impulses. Landscapes fascinated him initially. But along with the world of nature and flora emerged his own reconstructed images of fauna that often signified as metaphors of human passion and energy, and his paean to the elemental magic of women. This transition may have risen from his penchant for human psychology and observing the intricacies of human behavior. An inveterate introvert, the world of workaday reality does not attract Pyne as much as lower depths of psyche and the transformed world out of his fancy. Adherents of Surrealism thought that the horrors of World War I were the culmination of the Industrial Revolution and the result of the rational mind. Consequently, however, irrational thought and dream-states were viewed as the natural antidote to those social problems. The Surrealist diagnosis of the ‘problem’ of the realism and capitalist civilisation is a restrictive overlay of false rationality, including social and academic convention, on the free functioning of the instinctual urges of the human mind. The Surrealist ethos also connected itself with the theories of Sigmund Freud who asserted that unconscious thoughts do motivate human behaviour while advocating free association and dream analysis to reveal subterranean thoughts. In the case of Pyne too, his artistic vision does not adhere to logic because he does not see with his eyes but rather through his subconscious mind -- in an act of surrender to the liberty of his dreamy vision -- with little control over the wanton caprice of his depictions. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised – the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. Family Background : His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury’s father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Education : 1955-60: Studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata. 1965 : He went to paris to study in Ecole des Beaux Arts, in William Hayter’s Atelier 17. It refers to the entire psychological process, including mind and emotions. Ghoshal’s paintings weaves an Antahkaran, creating structural spaces, sometimes meditative & melancholic in nature. His contemplative mind, enters into the inner realm of reality, dissects it and extracts a kind of mystic silence. The extant contemplative in wardress in him got charged with meditative spirituality through his association with this heritage city. Benaras, started flowing in his canvasses both through landscapes and human faces. Since 1995-96 his Benaras paintings started transforming. Initially his landscapes contained reflection of naturalness transformed through melancholic chiaroscuro. Gradually the naturalness started disintegrating into expressionistic structures. At a certain stage during 2004-05 some of these structures yielded into abstractions shedding all the links with naturalness. Then again the sign-symbols integrated into geometrical structures reflecting traces of original locations. About the Artist and his works : Born : Born in 1965. Tapas spent his childhood and early youth in the quiet idyllic environment of rural Bengal. The soothing lyrical landscape and the intrinsic mythical past within the rural life made a great impact in his inner being, which aroused in him love for beauty, spiritual in nature, making him contemplative and inward looking.
