By Monica Piloni
Located in New York, NY
Monica Piloni was born in Curitiba in 1978 and graduated from the Paraná School of Music and Fine Arts in 2002. She lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. Looking at her work as a whole, one can see the artist's interest in the representation of the female figure, which began as a consequence of having her own body as a living model. Most of her works have a common feature in the way they are constructed: mirroring. This feature distorts the body by omitting or multiplying elements, creating another dimension in the perception of the human figure that attracts at the same time as it repels. In this way, Monica reflects on the female experience, which includes subjective procedures for adapting to characters, patterns of behavior and archetypes, fashion and cosmetics, as well as physical procedures such as mutilation and other body modifications...

"Bei Spalato" Italian Impressionist Costal Landscape Oil Painting on Panel
Located in New York, NY
A wonderful depiction of an Italian landscape with a church in the distance by the country side. For this beautiful depiction, we find distinct attention to detail luring us down the pathway on this Italian scene. Among other things, this Italian artist is notable for his painting with the trends of the times. The result of this beautiful oil painting is one of provoking imagery and emotion in an impressionistic technique. This piece is signed by the artist lower right and it comes housed in a beautiful decorated gold tone wood frame with linen inner and is ready to hang with hanging wire on verso. Art measures 12.75 x 17.5 inches Framed measures 7.5 x 12.5 inches Eugen Ankelen was born in 1858 Laupheim, Germany and was a well-known German painter and writer of the late 19th-early 20th century. [Bruce Sargeant (1898-1938)] Artist's Studio, Contemporary Figurative Painting
By Mark Beard
Located in New York, NY
A classical anatomical figure in an artist's studio, surrounded by brushes and a palette, with muted tones creating a contemplative and intimate atmosphere. Contemporary figurative painting by Mark Beard [Bruce Sargeant (1898-1938)] Artist’s Studio n.d. Signed in red, u.r. Oil on canvas 36 x 18 inches $4,000 + $300 framing The pure and brilliant world of Bruce Sargeant’s art seems terribly removed from our own, unhampered by the prevalent inconsistencies of today’s world. Peopled with comely thoroughbreds, his paintings project a world vision unchanged from the models cherished by idealist writers like E. M. Forster and Rupert Brooke in that golden decade that led up to the Great War. Neither buff nor narcissistic, his fair-haired young athletes pose, somewhat uncomfortably, before the painter’s gaze, not wanting the attention yet feeling their duty to submit. Though tantalized by the New World dabbings of Robert Henri and John Sloan, Sargeant found his true inspiration in the art and ethos of fifth-century Athens, where the achievement of the kaloi kagathoi, young men who were “beautiful to look at and worthy of admiration,” were the perfect models for artistic rendering and public adulation. At base, Sargeant’s models, like the sculptures of Lysippus and Praxiteles, are idealized heroes whose achievements on the playing field earn them their renown. However, unlike his precursors, the painter requires no civic responsibility from his ephebes, only physical stamina, gymnastic prowess, and good looks. His work bespeaks a class that existed briefly, but was prolonged and attenuated in the languorous novels of writers such as Denton Welch...

Basquiat at Tony Shafrazi gallery 1996 (Basquiat Dust Heads announcement)
By Jean-Michel Basquiat
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Jean-Michel Basquiat A TRIBUTE: Important Paintings, Drawings, & Objects: Vintage original 1990s Basquiat announcement card to: Jean-Michel Basquiat at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, September 21 - November 23, 1996. Cover image features a reproduction of Basquiat's Dust Heads (1982). Off-set printed gallery announcement. 7.5 x 6.25 inches (folded closed). Very good overall vintage condition. Some light rub marks to reverse. Published by Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York, 1996. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Jean-Michel Basquiat’s dramatic life and iconic paintings—which variously feature obsessive scribbling, enigmatic symbols and diagrams, and iconography including skulls, masks, and the artist’s trademark crown—make him one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. The self-taught painter embraced graffiti before committing to a studio practice. He found a mentor and friend in Andy Warhol, who helped the young artist navigate the 1980s New York art world. Across his oeuvre, Basquiat drew on his own Caribbean heritage; a convergence of African American, African, and Aztec cultural histories; classical themes; and pop cultural figures including athletes and musicians. The immediacy and intellectual depth of his paintings won him widespread acclaim both before and after his untimely death at the age of 27. Related Categories Basquiat Bruno Bischofberger. Basquiat Tony Shafrazi. Marry Boone. Basquiat exhibit. Basquiat ephemera. Basquiat poster. Basquiat prints.

Mumbo Jumbo BK#1 - Ironic Figurative Painting with Pink and Blue Colors
By Francks Deceus
Located in New York, NY
Francks Deceus’ “Mumbo Jumbo BK#1” is a 20 x 16 inch acrylic paint, color pencil, and collage painting on canvas. The main colors are pink, blue and red. The image is very playful, showing a man dressed as a superhero standing next to an entangled fire hose. The title “Mumbo Jumbo, is inspired by Ishmael Reed’s book under the same titled, where he attempted to capsulate the complexities of the African American experience. For Deceus is about capturing the complexity of his experience as an immigrant from Haiti back in the 1970s. A series of very colorful and playful works, focusing on the adventures of one figure named “Cappy”. The name is derived from Deceus family home town, Cap Haitien. Cappy is Deceus alter-ego; The images are intentionally drawn in the vein of comic strips with Cappy as the superhero. He goes out in the world and has to solve the kind of frightening experiences Deceus knew about as a Haitian immigrant, which in the paintings are ironically represented by the hose/snake snarling Cappy. Stylistically Deceus work incorporates many of the aesthetic forms of artists like Norman Lewis and Howardena...

Makes a superb gift! Inspired by an original recording conducted by Igor Stravinsky and William Hogarth's series of eight paintings and engravings of the same name, Hockney began designing the set and costumes production of The Rake's Progress. Through his designs and the use of his now iconic cross-hatched etchings, he wanted to create a 20th century response to the opera and to Hogarth's 18th century idea. These cufflinks are based upon those Hockney etchings...

Many are depicted in recognizable historical settings and this piece is an excellent example of this as he captures a snow-filled historic setting of New York with the calm, endearing charm of American Flags and buildings with snow. Christopher engages his audience with the quick use of brushwork and great attention to picking up the energy passionately of his subjects. The piece comes housed in a dark tone wood frame and it is ready to be displayed with hanging hardware on verso. Art measures 7 x 5 inches Framed measures 8.75 x 6.75 inches Christopher Willett...
