'Can Hats Favor Fire? Can a Hat Aspire to Higher Things?, ' by Mark Gilmore

By Mark Gilmore

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

The full frontal female figure is suspended in mid-air with both arms in motion, seemingly about to jump off the canvas. The blurred figure is set against a clear, graphic backdrop of reds, black and other dark tones with a turquoise rectangular box framing the torso of the figure. A simple black wooden frame frames the work. "I have been active in telling stories with images for over 45 years. My fascination with shapes and textures are my earliest memories and everything I have done in my adult life has revolved around these interests. I learned a lot about color, composition and story telling by stripping all sentimentality from these elements and using them for more than 25 years as a designer. Although I enjoy the challenge and variety of commissions, my own work is very personal. My work has always been about expressing the otherness and mystery just underneath everyday life. Reacting to the ephemeral nature of life and mortality. All of my personal paintings are just different ways of expressing one moment, one feeling. I’m describing a place I’ve never been with a language I’ve never spoken but I’ve spent my whole life trying to get there because its my home." -- Mark Gilmore...

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

In this framed 24.8" x 24.8"acrylic on linen painting by Northern Irish artist, Noelle McAlinden, an imaginary landscape emerges with the suggestion of trees and Jacobs Ladder ascending. The palette is deep purples, reds and blues with touches of white highlighting the trees and ladder. The artist states that this painting is "reminiscent of reflections on happy times with loved ones now gone." The painting is framed in a white beveled wooden frame. Originally from Maghery, Ireland, the close association with references to the shoreline and her father’s family business, as a market gardener...

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting

By XVALA

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

By XVALA

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

This 61" x 44" mixed media painting by the artist XVALA is from his series 'Pandemic Collection: 6.' The painting was created with iridescent oil stick and spray paint on a screen print of a Star Wars poster. The abstracted "Basquiat-inspired" work depicts a silver robot with red eyes and large white teeth on a purple and blue background with the text 'cyber punk' in red at the bottom of the painting. 2020 twisted human reality in a number of ways no one could ever have predicted. XVALA pays tribute to this by melding the original Star Wars movie poster with the unexpected weirdness of the 21st Century. By combining a classic sci-fi villain with a modern symbol of literal Cyberpunk, XVALA shows the COVID-19 virus aimed straight toward the earth with a mission to destroy it. Exhibited during the Pandemic Paintings exhibition at the Meme Ranch August 7th, 2020. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His' Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. 'Conquest, ' by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, Oil on Canvas, 2021

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

"Conquest," by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, is a framed oil on canvas painting from 2021 that features an image of a running horse. Rendered in cool values of blue, purple, white, gray, the painting also features accents of warmer colors like pinks, tan and cream. The cropped view of the running horse accentuates its impression speed, while the emphasis on the rendering of its muscles heightens the physicality of the animal. The urgency of the scene is accentuated by what appears to be an approaching storm. Award winning Serbian artist Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel is known for artworks with natural elements, like people and animals (usually wild tigers and lions), that show selective flashes of realism often distorted by an abstract background. In her professional career, she has created hundreds of square meters of portrait mosaics for public spaces and large churches...

'Bath of an Artist, ' by Tunde Darvay, Acrylic Painting on Canvas, 2014

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

This 32.75" x 61.75" acrylic on canvas painting by Romanian artist, Tunde Darvay, features a wood frame of the artists' making. The horizontal mystical landscape is brightly painted with predominant colors of reds, blues, and greens. Surrealistic figures and animals emerge from the landscape and float out into space through the painted frame. "It is a special piece because instead of painting on wood, as I usually do, here I am reaching back to a somewhat more traditional way of painting on canvas. It is a statement of aesthetic credo depicting an artist who having finished one of her paintings is going through a symbolic rebirth. She is going through a ritual purification by divesting herself of her old self and taking responsibility for her views, principles, and emotions as she is boldly facing a society that is very different from her. " - Tunde Darvay "Influenced by the unique rural landscapes of Transylvania, the place where I was born and have spent most of my life, my paintings emphasize the shadow-line between the organic and the inorganic. My aesthetic worldview is profoundly mythical: it depicts a world in which color breathes life into inanimate things in order to conjure up playful, suggestive associations along a broad spectrum of themes and forms. Houses have smiling or grinning doors, cheerful, winking, or teary windows, depending on their moody personalities. Chimneys protrude as if they were limbs. Trees hold hands and dance together, witnessed by the curious glance of birds, cats, and fish from behind the bushes...

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

In this mixed media 24"x24" painting, 'Meme Money 007: Green Goochi,' by XVALA, the artist colorfully plays with the 'Gucci' brand in tandem with the childhood cartoon series, SpongeBob. SpongeBob, as a green 'Goochi Sponge,' takes center stage with a green letter pattern on the canvas background. The work is a screen print with additional painting and iridescent oil stick by the artist with predominant colors of green and gold. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...
