All of my pieces are born from a memory in pop culture. This is a special memory that involves my son. For decades we have always played a board game on Christmas Eve after opening gifts (usually with a game he just received, and often that game was a version of Monopoly.
Over the years the family has come to terms with the fact that my son will almost always win at this game. And this is a testament to those battles lost.
Jill is an abstract painter and a pop artist. She has melded these two genres together to create a unique style of artwork. She comes to this NFT space after more than 20 years as a graphic designer and over a decade as an artist in the physical world.
She is inspired by the logos and icons from pop culture that are memories that formed her life – and the intent is that it invokes feeling of nostalgia from those that see it.
But behind the bright colors the breaking apart of the logos was an act of rebellion, against the years she had to create within the constraints of a graphic design job – and after further introspection it was representative of the brokenness as the feeling of an artist that never fit in the traditional community, the brokenness that came with being a breast cancer survivor even though it was that journey that made her want to start painting again, and the countless other things that try and break us as adults.
This artwork is meant to be a statement piece and will be the perfect addition to streaming TVs, digital frames in homes and offices, as well as apple watches and lock screens on phones.
