Balderbrae

Country House by Jayne Design Studio in Suffern, NY

The home is located in upstate New York and was built by David Easton who designed the property to highlight the historic garden and cottage associated with the property. We wanted to honor David’s legacy while moving it into the 21st century. We also wanted to make it specific to our client’s interests in art, history, nature and mythology. Hence, the decoration references historical designs such as the Moroccan tile mosaic with a custom Egyptian Revival frieze on the Kitchen hearth based on an ancient example at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Great Room curtains inspired by ones shown in an early 19th century watercolor from the collection of the Cooper Hewitt.
