Boathouse, Ewhurst Park

Country House by Murudé in England, GB

The boathouse is a charming timber building located within the 900 acres of picturesque Ewhurst Park Estate, once home to the Duke of Wellington. It is nestled on a lake, where deer roam freely, and the surrounding land provides organic, fresh fruits and vegetables.

The beauty of the space being surrounded by nature and open to the elements. The large timber doors allow indoor and outdoor lake views to converge, and the characterful furniture and textured materials with pastel colours blend in seamlessly, creating a calm and cosy spot.

We have designed this space to be a place where guests can enjoy food picked from the surrounding land, dine inside and out overlooking the lake, reconnect and warm up next to a fire after a day of discovering the land or foraging in the woodland.

Leading with the surrounding nature and borrowing from the existing architecture, we have carefully selected a subtle palette of natural materials, rich textures and heavy linens to work together to give the house warmth, energy and serenity.

Light painted timber cladding contrasts beautifully with the rich tones of bespoke solid oak kitchen and complements the beautiful stone fireplace that sits seamlessly in the surroundings, creating a timeless design suitable for all the seasons.

The open plan nature of the space with the bespoke timber kitchen and island is a great food preparation area with a view, perfect for the wild plants foraged and vegetables picked from the estates market garden. Equally allows people to gather around for food preparation demonstrations or entertaining guests. The space is designed for flexibility; for a family, or many guests. With the atmosphere translates easily from daytime to night-time.
