Buena Road

Family Home by Lisa Wolfe Design in Lake Forest, IL

My Client moved her and her 2 kids into this lovely yet ‘vanilla’ rental with only blowup mattresses and some blankets/pillows. Starting with nothing, we had a blank slate (some of our first rooms were done with what was in-stock and available immediately). She had seen my website and told me there was one particular project that she connected with. Turns out that was my home, so designing for her was like designing for myself! Her old home was — as she describes it — a “mausoleum of marble and gold” — cold, too fancy to live in or even touch, and not at all reflective of herself.

Her goal was to have a happy, bright home that said “this is me, world!” and one that made her kids feel cozy enough to roll around and have friends over. Once she purchased the house, we pulled the trigger on everything (and we’re still finishing work with new projects around the corner…there are several rooms that were not quite ready when we had this photo shoot!). Ultimately the house is a layering bonanza of wallpaper, jewel tone palettes, lighting, plushy bold textures and styles. This has definitely been one of the most fun projects I’ve ever had.
