What remains when almost everything is removed.
For this 100 sqm apartment in Munich’s Schwabing district, PEAM stripped a conventional 1970s floor plan back to its essence. Nearly all interior walls were removed, creating a fluid living environment shaped by openness, light, and flexibility rather than rigid functions.
Inspired by the Japanese concept of *Ma*, the space in between, the project explores calm through reduction. Custom-designed translucent sliding doors subtly transform the atmosphere of the apartment, allowing spaces to shift between openness and privacy throughout the day.
A restrained palette of exposed concrete, lime plaster, and brushed oak creates warmth through texture and natural light. Almost all furniture and built-ins were designed specifically for the project, including the kitchen, bathroom, bed, dining table, and a custom stainless steel collection. Carefully selected vintage pieces add contrast, patina, and character.
The result is a quiet yet highly social home. Minimal, adaptable, and deeply human.
