Kips Bay Showhouse 2011

Family Home by Harry Heissmann Inc. in New York, NY

The Kips Bay Showhouse in 2011 was our first important one. The house that year was a beautiful townhouse once belonging to the Whitney family and we decided to name our room 'Kate's Hideaway'. Bare of any architectural detail and with only one window, the room was mainly covered in smoke colored mirror panels laid out to fit the walls and even provide a mirror 'crown molding'. We developed a custom colored version of a wall covering with Phillip Jeffries called 'Harry's Chocolate' which was carried in their line for a while to cover the rest of the walls. The carpet came from Stark, a sadly discontinued 'pixilated' cheetah pattern. A Charles Hollis Jones 'floating' (on plexiglass-glass) and lit bed with an amazing acrylic headboard came from R & Company, we selected a Tulu rug from Double Knot Gallery as a covering, the bolster pillow is covered in an haute couture jeweled material from Jakob Schlaepfer in Switzerland. Two antique side tables from Florian Papp, Chris Spitzmiller ceramic lamps, Yves Saint Laurent 'Love' poster from 1972, which was framed by J.Pocker, a custom wing chair from Baron upholstered in a raspberry colored velvet from Scalamandre and an outline quilted Lilly Pulitzer fabric (taken from a vintage caftan), a huge toy giraffe presiding in a corner and a rock-crystal flush ceiling fixture from CL Sterling & Son to complete the picture....
