Kors Residence
This decidedly bold, yet simultaneously restrained, home was tailor-made for the jet-setting fashion designer Michael Kors and his husband, Lance Le Pere. Situated on a copious site steps from the ocean, the long, low slung house is set parallel to the water’s edge, taking advantage of the breathtaking panorama and providing spectacular views from every room of the house. Lushly landscaped to provide both privacy and an almost sub-tropic, primitive bent, the setting is both calm and opulent. The two-level structure provides abundant entertaining spaces on the ground floor, including a great outdoor living area complete with fireplace, redolent chain-suspended daybeds and large dining table suited for sophisticated entertaining. Other indulgent areas—massage room, mediation area, and spacious gym—open to the oversized pool, hot tub and ample thicket of greenery spilling out to the sand and sea. The upper floor is dedicated to a gracious open plan that effortlessly segues from public to private areas through the use of large doors and hidden partitions. A mix of warm rich woods and natural travertine mix with cool smooth concrete and natural textures of white cotton, natural linen, hemp, and sumptuous suede. The large kitchen-breakfast room underscores the overall theme of crisp white offset with warmth: the rattan sided credenzas, wicker globe lamp and thick teak table counterbalance the otherwise spartan setting. A pair of oversized bespoke Nakashimaya solid walnut doors provide a strong visual and sculpture form; these oversized panels glide soundly on hidden tracks to separate this working area from the formal entry. The house is a magnificent retreat for an erudite sophisticated couple that desires the best of tranquil ease and elegant living. Architect: Stelle Lomont Rouhani
