River Oaks Boulevard

Family Home by Dennis Brackeen Design Group in Houston, TX

The Italian Renaissance style home located on the prestigious River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, Texas sat vacant for over 5 years. It seemed that no one could see the potential beyond its previous and badly dated remodel. For Dennis Brackeen Design Group the project become a complete 10,000 sq foot gut job and rehabilitation which the firm completed within an unprecedented 15 months. Upon completion the new owners moved in taking only their clothing. The couple were engaged to be married when they purchased the home and amid the construction and renovation also planned and celebrated their nuptials in a destination ceremony at Cal-A-Vie resort located in Vista, California. He, a self-made energy mogul and father of three adult children and she, a mother of two high schoolers and having impeccable taste worked closely with Brackeen who designed and created the perfect home to compliment their lifestyle. Almost every piece within the home was newly acquired and is pedigreed with vetted provenance from across the United States and Europe. The collection includes period antique furnishings and pieces from contemporaries such as Andre Arbus, Gilbert Poillerat, Paul Evans, Milo Baughman, Karl Springer, Paul McCobb, Charles Hollis Jones, Tommy Parzinger, Nanna Ditzel, Maison Jansen, Bagues, Maison Charles and more. Modern artisans include Callidus Guild, Azadeh Shladovsky, John Himmel, Jean De Merry, Jane Hallworth, Maya Romanoff, Kelly Wearstler, and many others. The couples art collection includes works by Andy Warhol, Joan Miro, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Luis Tomasello, Michel Lablais and James Nares. Some of the furnishings came from Brackeen’s 9000 square foot retail store Moxie which houses the design firm’s offices, upholstery and paint divisions and an unprecedented collection of carefully selected furnishings from around the globe which he and fellow co-owners have amassed. All of the upholstered pieces were custom made in-house.
