What is focal point in art?

As a general description focal point refers to the area of the painting where the eye will usually focus on the first moment of looking at the artwork. The artist usually makes sure that when creating a piece, to have a predominant focal point, as it keeps the viewer attracted to the piece and while looking at some other areas and details of the piece, it usually attracts back the eye to the initial focal point. The artwork's focal point can be emphasized by the means of composition, detail, light, color, texture, definition, balance, etc.
