“la Belle au Drapé Jaune” Figurative Painting 51x38in by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné
Located in Culver City, CA
“la Belle au Drapé Jaune” Figurative Painting 51x38in by Katherine Bakhoum Tisné Mixed Media with Glass Frame Katherine Bakhoum represents art that has been forgotten for a long while. She draws upon the concept and the subject of the orientalism and the enchantment of that period. Through her work we can feel the researches she has done to reveal her Egyptian origins and the magic and power of the bygone times. Katherine Bakhoum has succeeded in imprinting her own stamp to evoke a new world full of charm, nostalgia and magic that is deeply implanted in her canvas. Her power dwells in creating her own style of contemporary expressionism building upon the old orientalism. Katherine Bakhoum’s art comes up out of an Egyptian childhood and from the distance of a life spent in France. What is left unsaid is as important as what is shown. Decorative yes, as in old orientalism, when everything was texture and what wasn’t texture was veiled, a reincarnation of old spirits, dervishes, orientalist motifs and the stuff of a once powerful civilization, the better to suggest it all might just come to life again. The choice of ancient subject matters, the echo of orientalist pieces in the collages, like the echo of the appeal of ancient gestures, of foreign lands, and domestic tapestries, all this weaves up out of Katherine Bakhoum’s creations. Sometimes we only have the line of a horizon on which to hang our imagination, sometimes we only have the trace of a profile in the shadows. What we always have is a persistent belief in beauty. Where there is beauty, there is hope. Katherine Bakhoum has abandoned neither. SOLO EXHIBITIONS Claudine Legrand Gallery: Annual exhibitions from 1996 to 2016 Safar Khan...

Located in London, GB
Truth, 2017 Print on Museum Glass, Hand gilded with Lemon and Moon Gold 31 x 31 cm/ 12.2 x 12.2 in (custom framed) Edition of 5 This print is from a series of images made from a collection of honesty seeds gathered at the end of baking hot summer... The papery enclosures are like parchment through which the light filters with a pale gold delicacy." The beauty of the pieces printed on glass are truly revealed when seen in the flesh, which shimmer in the daylight and change constantly as different light sources are reflected off the print. "My fascination with colour goes back a long way. One of my earliest creative recollections has me sitting at a table endlessly mixing paints in a valiant but ultimately futile attempt to 'invent a new colour'. It was an imperative that kept me occupied for some time as I recall. The result was always the same - and unedifying fudge of pale peach and silver." - Valda Bailey...

In the Currents
Located in New York, NY
Ben Young’s sculpture fluidly blends glass, concrete, bronze, steel, and light to depict romantic and pensive imagery highlighting the fragility of our climate and its most precious resource – water. Born in Australia and raised in New Zealand, Young is an avid surfer and environmentalist, inspired by a lifetime on and around oceans, bays, and reefs, with an intimate understanding of the challenges our precious ecosystems face. Young’s thought-provoking sculpture shows great range, portraying the beauty and solitude of life on the ocean, haunting depths of the deep sea, and stunning and relaxing upside of island life. Water is many things to many people, which Young encapsulates brilliantly in his work, encompassing themes of sustainability throughout. Using concrete to create mountains, crevasses, sand bars, and cliffs, Young’s innovative use of materials is transportative. With hand-carved glass as his guiding medium, Young amplifies light and its relationship with water – our most sacred element – to create a glowing unity that people from around the world connect with on a personal level, whether they are beachside or in the Desert. Untitled (Roi David)
Located in Palo Alto, CA
Marc Chagall Untitled (Roi David), 1954 is a rare and imaginative culmination of the collaboration between Marc Chagall and the Fucina degli Angeli. This work is from the beginning of Chagall’s usage of Murano glass as a means of expression. In 1954, Chagall was invited into the Fucina degli Angeli by Egidio Costantini who was the master glass blower at the time. This stunning and mesmeric sculpture beckons the eyes through the use of vivid, bold colors that blend seamlessly together. Blue, purple, teal and hints of red coalesce in the center of the glass plate, creating the backdrop for a whimsical scene placed in the foreground. A man in a crown kneels in the center of the work, preoccupied with the string instrument delicately constructed in his hands. Gilded flecks of gold are highlighted around the crown and instrument, showing us the depth of the lyrical poet. The transparent glass allows us to follow suite of the man, becoming entranced and lost in thought. Created in 1954 in the Fucina degli Angeli in Venice, Italy, this Murano glass sculpture was realized by master glass artist Egidio Costantini (Brindisi, 1912- Venice, 1998) in collaboration Marc Chagall, (Vitebsk, 1887 – Saint-Paul, 1985). This work is inscribed ‘M. Chagall E. Costantini 1954 © Fucina degli Angeli’ on verso and is an artist proof. Catalogue Raisonné: Marc Chagall Untitled (Roi David), 1954 is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts (copies will be enclosed as added documentation with the invoices that will accompany the sale of the work).
