Polar Bear and Puffin Arctic Wildlife Painting Balloon Animal Art on Linen

By Sofía Cristina Jiménez

Located in FISTERRA, ES

Polar bear and puffin wildlife painting combining Arctic imagery, balloon animal aesthetics and ecological reflection on raw linen canvas. The Polar Bear and the Puffin – Plastic Nature VIII is an original acrylic painting by Sofía Cristina Jiménez from her ongoing Plastic Nature series. The work presents a polar bear and a puffin transformed into inflatable figures, positioned within an Arctic seascape where floating ice, reflective water and distant frozen horizons establish an atmosphere of stillness and vulnerability. Combining wildlife painting, balloon animal imagery and contemporary ecological themes, the work explores the increasingly complex relationship between nature, representation and environmental awareness. At the center of the composition stands a monumental pale-blue polar bear rendered as an inflatable structure. Its segmented surface recalls balloon sculptures and manufactured objects, creating a deliberate contrast between the symbolic weight of the animal and its apparently artificial form. Nearby, a puffin appears both perched and in flight, introducing scale, movement and narrative tension while reinforcing the fragile balance of the Arctic ecosystem. Throughout the Plastic Nature series, Sofía Cristina Jiménez transforms wildlife subjects into inflatable figures that occupy landscapes associated with environmental vulnerability. Rather than illustrating ecological issues directly, the artist creates subtle visual displacements that encourage viewers to reconsider familiar animal imagery. The balloon animal aesthetic introduces a layer of cultural mediation, suggesting how contemporary society increasingly encounters nature through images, symbols and representations. A significant feature of the painting is the use of raw linen. The upper portion of the composition remains intentionally unprimed, allowing the natural texture and color of the linen support to remain visible. This material decision activates the surface of the painting while establishing a striking contrast between the synthetic appearance of the inflatable animals and the tactile reality of the painted landscape. The restrained palette of icy blues, whites and natural linen tones reinforces the Arctic setting while creating a sophisticated chromatic balance suitable for contemporary interiors and collections focused on wildlife art, environmental themes and contemporary figurative painting. Medium: Acrylic on linen canvas Dimensions: [insert dimensions] Year: [insert year] Series: Plastic Nature Condition: Excellent original condition Frame: Unframed Installation: Ready to hang Authenticity: Unique original artwork This work is particularly suited for collectors interested in polar bear paintings...

Against The Tide - Oil On Linen Oil painting of the California coastline at sunset in the style of Edgar Alwin Payne (American, 1883-1947). Deep grey clouds pose in the top corners with hues of pink light shining through. Choppy waves crash against deep red and brown rocks, as the whites of the wave hurl upward. The ocean shows tones of green, blue and yellow as the sunlight shines from above. Condition: professionally restored, previous reline onto Masonite with edge and corner wear. New UV resisting, non yellowing varnish applied. Unsigned. Unframed. Oil on linen on masonite. Image: 16"H x 30"W Edgar Alwin Payne was an American painter known for his landscapes, seascapes and western paintings. He was born in Washburn, Missouri on March 1, 1882, and began painting at the age of 14. He began his career by designing and painting scenery for the stage, and murals for homes and theaters. Primarily a self taught artist, he did though study briefly at the Art Institute in Chicago. Recognized as one of California's leading landscape artists, Payne earned the respect of his peers and art critics for his Impressionistic landscapes painted in the plein-air style. Possessing a reverence for nature, he especially loved the mountains. Frequently he took pack horses in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the upper lakes to sketch and paint, there he glorified the areas majestic peaks and cobalt blue lakes. Payne Lake was named in his memory. Drawn to Europe, Payne trekked to and painted the elevated heights of the Swiss Alps, the colorful fishing boats of Concarneau Harbor and Brittany, France and the picturesque sailing vessels of Chioggia, Venice, Italy. He spent time capturing on canvas Arizona's Canyon De Chelly and Navajo horsemen traversing the region's arid tablelands. He painted California...
