1936 Original Poster Pyrenees I must fight until victory Frenchman be persuaded!

By Pierre Mail

Located in PARIS, FR

Pierre Mail, the French poster artist born in 1902, made a lasting impact with his 1936 poster, "Pyrénées, il faut que je lutte jusqu'à la victoire, Français sois en persuadé!" (Pyrenees, I must fight until victory, Frenchman, be persuaded!). This vintage artwork not only embodies determination but also showcases Mail's talent in delivering powerful messages through visuals. Mail's composition features a resolute French soldier against a mountainous backdrop, underlining the imperative to fight until victory. The bold typography emphasizes the message's urgency. This poster gains significance in its historical context, created during a period of political turmoil in France. It serves as a call to action, urging the French people to persevere. Pierre Mail's influence extended beyond posters, as he made notable contributions to magazines and journals, shaping the visual culture of his time. Today, Mail's 1936 poster remains a historical artifact, reminding us of an era when art played...

1923 original soviet film poster for "Four Lives" - Cinema

Located in PARIS, FR

The 1923 original film poster for "Four Lives" (Четыре Жизни) is a striking example of early Soviet graphic design used to promote cinema. This poster, produced by Kino Moskva, showcases the avant-garde artistic style that was prevalent in Soviet Union during the late 1920s. The film, directed by an unknown director, is likely a dramatic narrative exploring various aspects of life, symbolized through its title. The design of the poster is dominated by a powerful figure in the foreground, depicted with strong lines and geometric shapes, reflecting the constructivist influence. The use of bold, contrasting colors like red, black, and green adds to the visual impact, drawing the viewer's attention immediately. The figure's posture and attire suggest a story of resilience and struggle, themes common in Soviet cinema of that era. In the background, the stylized depiction of another face and abstract forms contribute to the dynamic composition, hinting at the film's complex narrative and emotional depth. The typography is bold and angular, consistent with the constructivist aesthetic, emphasizing the film's title and adding to the overall dramatic effect. "Four Lives" poster is not only a promotional tool but also a piece of art that reflects the cultural and political milieu of the Soviet Union in the late 1920s. It captures the spirit of innovation and the emphasis on strong, impactful imagery that characterized Soviet propaganda and film promotion...

Large Sebastien de Ganay Folded Linen Abstract Minimalist Sculpture Fabric Wire

By Sébastien de Ganay 1

Located in Surfside, FL

Folded Flat Linen 03 Unique work 2016 Dimensions: H: 35 cm / W: 36 cm / D: 9 cm Materials: architectural wire mesh, raw linen Born in 1962 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Sebastien De Ganay studied political science and film at Columbia University in New York 1986-1990 ( (Bachelor of Political Science, Master of Fine Arts in Cinema) and is co-founder and editor of the art book publishing house onestar press. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria. de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric. "The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux." (Adrian Searle, art critic for The Guardian, London (1994)) In the style of Readymades and Arte Povera, de Ganay starts out from a simple utility material and combines this with an examination of the surface in the tradition of Minimal Art. He designed a limited edition chair "PLEASE" a “4 Piece Chair” customized by John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner and Rirkrit Tiravanija. In these, we see the landscape transformed into a dream-like setting.
