“A great deal of my recent work was made during a time when I was reading the great American novel by William Gaddis, "The Recognitions," the most demanding book I’ve ever read. Along the way, I extracted sentence fragments that interested me and I pieced them together to make the titles for the last three years of my work. So, my recent work is linked to Gaddis’ novel through the titles, but also in the theme of “recognition,” which speaks to the nature of my work. I feel my way through various processes until I recognize a possibility―a possibility that is promising in terms of visual dynamics but also in terms of giving a body to some part of my experience. It is my hope that the viewer is compelled to recognize some part of themselves reflected in the work.” —Michael O’Keefe

Notes: Painter, notably in watercolour, and printmaker, gallery owner and teacher, born in Darvel, Ayrshire. Graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1959, some years later taking a higher diploma in art. Taylor made a big impact on the Scottish gallery scene when in 1963 he opened the New Charing Cross Gallery in Glasgow, giving young artists a chance to exhibit more adventurous work. Taylor had a long association with the Glasgow Print Studio as senior technician. In 1977, with Ainslie Yule, he was recommended by Scottish Arts Council for a residency at Editions Alecto to work on a screenprint. Taylor’s own work could sometimes have a strong polemical element, notably regarding war and the nuclear threat. As well as taking part in many group shows across Europe he was a regular solo exhibitor. The Ragisména work in aluminum is the result of an artistic and artisanal process that dates back to antiquity, when people used fire to shape metal. Casting consists of heating the metal until it becomes liquid and then pouring it into a mold of the work. After cooling, the mold is removed and the piece is polished. In this way, the foundry immortalizes in matter the work conceived by the artist, giving life to his vision and expression.
Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in São Paulo, Rodrigo Zampol has always been attracted to the arts. An architect by training, and with a strong presence in the world of visual arts, he plays with different types of materials and textures, seeking visual results that are almost always unexpected.
Zampol uses different materials in his work, such as metal, paper, leather, plaster, and different types of pigments. His works reflect his personal experience, his worldview, and his research on human history, from ancient civilizations to the present day.
