Motif, Gold Abstract African American Artist Viola Leak Woodcut Silkscreen Print

By Viola Burley Leak

Located in Surfside, FL

Motif (Abstract) in orange, blue and gold abstract. From the small edition of 10. from 1982. I am not sure if this is a woodcut or woodblock print or a silkscreen screenprint or some combination. Viola Burley Leak, American (1944 - ) Viola Leak was born in Nashville, Tennessee, she received a B.A. in Art from Fisk University, a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, an M.A. from Hunter College, NY and an M.F.A. in Media from Howard University, Washington, DC. Leak was an art consultant for both the New York State Board of Education and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Print Department, in addition to working for the Experimental Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian Institute. Her mixed media work often references religious motifs and those of her African-American experience and heritage. She is a multimedia artist, her works include printmaking, textile designing, soft sculpture, appliqué tapestries, doll making, and multi-media. Viola has studied with many renowned artists such as Aaron Douglas, Romare Bearden, Robert Blackburn, and Charles White. Her works can be found in the collections of World Federation of United Nations, New York State Office Building, Manufacturers of Hanover Trust Company, Atlanta Life Insurance Company and many more organizations. Viola's exhibition experience is extensive - more than 100 showings over a decade, national and international. Her quilts exude a miraculous and magical presence. They have traveled in two international shows and three national quilt projects in the past three years. A proud moment for her was being featured in the December 20, 2000 of the Smithsonian magazine; the article praised her mural "Afro Dance Scan" as one of the outstanding artworks in the "When the Spirit Moves: African American Dance...

'Rona Bots Money Edition, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting

By XVALA

Located in Oklahoma City, OK

This large scale 113" x 55" mixed media painting by XVALA was created during the pandemic and features floating green robots on a silver canvas with multi-color dollar signs throughout. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the global economy. The Rona Bots have canceled the economy, but it's not only our money that has been affected. XVALA appropriated this specific dollar symbol from Andy Warhol to remind us that the pandemic has also ripped through the fabric of pop culture in 2020. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His Fear Google campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

Rory Kurtz - Parasite - Contemporary Cinema Movie Film Posters

Rory Kurtz - Parasite - Contemporary Cinema Movie Film Posters

Located in Asheville, NC

Parasite: “There’s a lot to unpack in Bong Joon Ho's PARASITE. It asks many questions and doesn’t give us comforting answers. For the poster, I wanted to capture that sense of discomfort and unease. A seemingly picture-perfect moment between the happily rich Parks completely oblivious to what’s unfolding around them, and the Kim family relegated to the shadows struggling with their own complex feelings toward such wealth and privilege. It’s a timely film, groundbreaking for a handful of reasons, and difficult to define. My hope is the poster art is just as mesmerizing and ambiguous as the film itself.” - Rory Kurtz...

Shepard Fairey "Cultivate Justice" Blue & Red Diptych Matching Numbered Set

By Shepard Fairey

Located in Draper, UT

My work primarily revolves around concepts of and aspirations for justice. Whether it be environmental justice, racial justice, economic justice, gender equality, etc., the themes in my art often address injustices in a number of areas. Justice is a subjective, and in some ways, an abstract concept, but I think we all know in our conscience when something is wrong, unfair, immoral, or unjust. I witness convoluted logic every day from people attempting to defend (or ironically justify) injustice. These “Cultivate Justice” prints...
