Lions Head Big Game Trophy Natural Sisal Fiber Sculpture Lion Anne Andersson Art

Located in Surfside, FL

Anne Andersson Sisal fiber wall sculpture Lion's Head (# 13) Hand signed to verso Dated 2009. Measures approx. 22 1/2" height x 14 1/2" width x 10" depth Her sculptures are made of natural sisal Fiber from an agave and meticulously hand painted. The eyes are hand blown glass. Anne Andersson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a great desire to explore Nature and a Passion for Art. She received a degree in science in 1981 from Kjällbergska University in Gothenburg and a degree in Art from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She now works from her studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as a Sculptor, illustrator and painter. Her work calls to mind the animalia artworks of Henri Maik and Gustavo Novoa. Anne Andersson's artwork serves as an homage to our planet’s charismatic and rare wild animals. Inspired by the majesty and beauty of exotic wildlife, and motivated by an urge to preserve them, Anne’s astonishingly realistic life-size sculptures capture the experience of seeing these animals up close without exploiting them. Her sculpted work using natural materials and clay, provides a humane alternative to big game trophy hunting and taxidermy. She combines her talents in painting, tapestry weaving and illustration with an intuitive attention to the smallest detail to truly bring her sculptures to life. She has created lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, bobcats, lynxes, pumas, elephants, rhinos, bears, water buffalo, bison, moose, wolves, coyotes and more—but she feels closest to the big cats. Anne graduated with honors at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 1989. It was then that she met Don Moore...

AS FAR AS A VIEW - Folded Tapestry Collage of Scenic Landscapes w/ Palm Trees

Located in Signal Mountain, TN

AS FAR AS A VIEW, is part of a series of works that consider the decorative and escapist role of the landscape in the home. When seeking beauty in the world to distract us, delight us, and bring us into our own world, we seek something that stirs within us a memory or a dream. Traditionally, tapestries are a storytelling media as well as décor. This particular work is constructed from commercially printed tapestries acquired from a Chinese supplier during the pandemic. These tell a story of arrested, yet ample, desire. On one side of the piece we see a sunrise from a beach with palm trees. Gently folded over to the right is a second tapestry. In this the artist has chose to expose the desaturated backside which obscures slightly the third tapestry landscape of beach scene around midday. It brings to mind the passage of time much like time lapse photography...

Porter Series: Carte L'Europe (Shower Woman)
Porter Series: Carte L'Europe (Shower Woman)

Porter Series: Carte L'Europe (Shower Woman)

By William Kentridge

Located in Palm Desert, CA

"Porter Series: Carte L'Europe (Shower Woman)" is a tapestry by South African artist William Kentridge. It is edition 1 of 5 (plus 2 APs) and signed verso "W. Kentridge". William Kentridge is a South African graphic artist, filmmaker, and theatre arts activist especially noted for a sequence of hand-drawn animated films he produced during the 1990s. The pungent humanism he revealed in these and other works echoed a larger European tradition of artists such as Honoré Daumier, Francisco de Goya, and William Hogarth. Kentridge, whose father was a noted antiapartheid lawyer, attended the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (1973–76) and the now-defunct Johannesburg Art Foundation (1976–78). At various times in the 1970s and ’80s, he worked as an actor, playwright, set designer, and theatrical director, and he studied mime and theatre in Paris in the early 1980s. In 1992 he began an ongoing collaboration involving multimedia performances with Handspring Puppet Theatre (founded 1981) in Cape Town. As is clear from both his early training and his later artistic output, Kentridge’s interest in the visual arts was rooted in its connection with the theatrical arts. The narrative structure and character development in his films reflect this connection. While Kentridge pursued several avenues as an artist, at the centre of his work was a sequence of short animated films. To produce them, he made a rough charcoal drawing, photographed it, altered the drawing slightly, photographed it again, and so on. Kentridge’s original drawings are often completely effaced by their successors. Many of these films—including Johannesburg, 2nd Greatest City After Paris (1989) and Felix in Exile (1994)—follow the fortunes of the greedy capitalist Soho Eckstein and his alter ego, the sensitive and artistic Felix Teitelbaum. They present modern South Africa as reflective of the spiritual, ecological, and emotional crises of late capitalism. Kentridge later established himself as a consummate figure in the performing arts, particularly for his innovative stagings of the operas The Nose (2010) and Lulu (2015) at New York’s Metropolitan Opera and Wozzeck (2017) at the Salzburg Festival...

Art deco blue and pink tapestry "Bullfighting Stand" print Julián Grau Santos
Art deco blue and pink tapestry "Bullfighting Stand" print Julián Grau Santos

Art deco blue and pink tapestry "Bullfighting Stand" print Julián Grau Santos

Located in Valladolid, ES

One of a kind and spectacular work by the renowned artist Julián Grau Santos, “a master of color in 20th-century Spain.” This is an interesting print on tapestry entitled “Bullfighting Arena,” depicting a bullfighting scene, very much in keeping with Spanish tradition. In the foreground, several bullfighters appear in their suits of lights, and in the background, in the stands, a group of women with mantillas and fans, as well as spectators wearing hats. Both planes are presented with equal importance and prominence, creating a powerful contrast between action and contemplation. This underscores the cultural dimension of the event. It portrays bullfighting and the festival as a social spectacle, which is very consistent with the overall style of his work, particularly interested in capturing everyday life and its traditions, always with a personal use of color and light. Also noteworthy is the fact that the focus is not on individual portraits, but on chromatic harmony and artistic expression itself. He does not seek realistic detail, but rather a festive atmosphere and dynamism. The scene unfolds through quick, fluid movements that reinforce the sense of bustle. Blue, red, and pink tones predominate against an ochre background. Beautifully framed with a wide wooden frame with an aged finish. A truly interesting work due to its subject matter, its exclusivity, and its authorship. A truly interesting work in every aspect. It,s signed Julián Grau Santos, heir to a family of artists Julián Grau Santos is one of the most outstanding painters and illustrators on the national scene. He was born in Canfranc (province of Huesca) in 1937. Heir to a family tradition, he is the son of the painter Emilio Grau Sala, a significant artist of the School of Paris, and of the equally extraordinary painter Ángeles Santos, a prominent member of the Surrealist group of painters of the 1920s and of the Las Sinsombrero (The Hatless Ones). In 1954, he moved with his family to Barcelona, where he attended the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. In his early years, he was greatly influenced not only by Van Gogh, but also by Impressionists and Post-Impressionists such as Sisley, Cézanne, Renoir, Seurat, and Vuillard, whom he discovered during his first visits to Paris, the city where his father lived. In the 1960s, he was closely associated with Cuenca, where he lived temporarily. At that time, he was experiencing a period of intense artistic activity, and there he produced numerous works characterized by strong expressiveness and a highly textured brushstroke. In 1978, he settled permanently in Madrid, where he currently lives, working not only as a painter but also as an illustrator and draftsman, contributing to several magazines, including ABC Cultural, La Razón, and El Cultural of El Mundo, among others. Since 1980, he has been a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. A painter not affiliated with any particular artistic movement, he has nevertheless contributed to the renewal of the figurative art tradition. He is considered by some to be a master of color in 20th-century Spain. Throughout his artistic career, he has participated in numerous solo exhibitions in various galleries both nationally and internationally, including Sala Parés, Galería Biosca, Galerie Saint Placide (Paris), Grand Palais (Paris), Justin Lester Gallery (Los Angeles), and Art Expo (New York). In 1993, the Mapfre Vida Cultural Foundation organized a retrospective exhibition of his work. Since 2004, he has exhibited permanently at the Beatriz Bálgoma Gallery, participating with them in several prestigious national and international art fairs such as Feriarte, the Lisbon...
