We are please to present Ceravolo's one of a kind "Alphabet Marilyn Benday Pink". Ceravolo has been a master of creating intriguing portraits of iconic personalities for more then 4 decades, and rose to fame when he was commissioned to create 5 large-scale portraits for the lobby of the Palladium Theatre in New York City of LINDA RONSTADT, JACKSON BROWNE, NEIL YOUNG, FRANK ZAPPA and HALL AND OATES, In addition to those portraits, his paintings are in the private collections of SIR ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER and PRINCE JEFRI of Brunei to name only a few. In this new Alphabet Benday work, Ceravolo adds color to the image of his stylized black and white portrait painting, with letters of the alphabet and then adds a shocking PINK color to the negative space formed by the letters. He has also added "Benday" dots to the portrait to add to the POP ART feeling of the art. The piece is matted with a thick 8 ply white mat and a white frame. Mixed media on wood - artwork can be shipped only framed in a crate Sumit claims to have been experimental since childhood. Be it drawing, sketching, cooking, painting or photography, he always liked to do something no one has ever thought of, by adding his signature element to the task. To achieve this, Sumit creates his own painting tools to go with the techniques he thinks of. “I usually discover different techniques to paint and construct my own tools to put the ideas into action. I pick up a theme and make a series of paintings on them. When the technique gets repetitive, I wait for another inspiration to strike, and I move onto the next series,” professes Sumit. He does not have any ‘patented style’ as he terms it to be mere repetition and limits an artist’s creativity. He adds on saying that his works are not entirely skill based as a skill needs to be perfected by doing it repeatedly; “My art is more about the excitement of how beautiful strokes and patterns can emerge from experimentation, I believe in having fun in my studio and my art is end result of it.” He also believes in impulsive acts of making art and its surprising results; “For me it is not about the number of hours spent in making one artwork or extreme skills of perfection. Its mostly impulsive with a playful skill that comes along involving certain movements, measures, materials and tools which leads to a satisfying end result.” Education MSc. “Web” is an original 1950s abstract mixed media painting by important American modernist and New Mexico artist Ward Lockwood (1894–1963). Anila Quayyum Agha All the Flowers are for Me - Burgundy, 2016 Laser-cut encaustic embroidery on paper 21 x 21 inches 53.3 x 53.3 cm AQA038 Anila Quayyum Agha examines issues of global politics, cultural identity, mass media and gender roles in her multidisciplinary practice. The Pakistani-American artist is best known for her immersive, large-scale light installations in which she laser-cuts elaborate patterns into three-dimensional cubes. Suspended and lit from within, the cubes cast lace-like, floor-to-ceiling shadows that completely transform the surrounding environment, alluding to the richly ornamented public spaces such as mosques that Agha was excluded from as a female growing up in Lahore. In addition to her suspended light installations, Agha also creates wall-mounted sculptural works, including her Flowers series (2018) that explores love and loss inspired by the mixed emotions she experienced following her son’s wedding and mother’s passing, events that happened in the same year. Although these works may appear decorative, they are imbued with meaning, from the floral patterns that express the beauty and femininity of her mother, to the metallic threads commonly used for wedding dresses in Pakistan. The visual elements collectively amplify the interplay between the matrimonial and the funereal, and by extension, the larger cycle of life. To produce these elaborate works, Agha laser-cuts vibrantly hued encaustic paper with intricate patterns and adorns them with light-reflecting embroidery and beads. These exquisitely detailed drawings are framed within shadow boxes, allowing light to pass through the cut-outs and cast patterned shadows in a manner similar to her large-scale light installations. The framing and shadows allow these works to transcend their two-dimensionality. Anila Quayyum Agha has an M.F.A. in fiber arts from the University of North Texas. She has exhibited her work across the globe, including in the 2018 Kansas City Biennale, curated by Dan Cameron; the Peabody Essex Museum, Massachusetts; the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York; the Dallas Contemporary Art Museum, Texas; the National Museum of Sculpture, Valladolid, Spain; and the Cheongju Craft Biennale, Korea.
