Melanated Queen Mixed Media Painting, Expressionist, Unframed Art

By Abayomi Odetomi

Located in Ibadan, Oyo

"Melanated Queen" is more than just a painting; it's a tribute to the beauty that resides within melanin-rich individuals and an homage to the resilience of African queens throughout history. Odetomi expertly captures the essence of this woman, her features exuding confidence and pride. The warm, earthy tones used to depict her skin convey a sense of strength and natural beauty, while the rose flower ribbon symbolizes femininity and grace. The woman's posture in the painting is a testament to the empowerment of women, especially women of color. Her regal posture and unyielding gaze project an aura of self-assuredness, breaking free from the limiting stereotypes that have plagued the representation of African women in art for centuries. Odetomi's brushstrokes artfully depict the subtle yet powerful transformation of vulnerability into strength, revealing the queen-like qualities present within every woman. Central to the artwork is the rose flower ribbon adorning the woman's hair. The rose has long been associated with love, beauty, and passion, and its presence here infuses the painting with a sense of romance and elegance. Moreover, the rose flower ribbon serves as a symbol of the interconnectedness between nature and the woman's identity. It highlights the harmony she shares with the world around her, as well as her ability to nurture and cultivate beauty in her surroundings. Abayomi Odetomi...

This artwork was created by the artistic duo Hunter & Gatti (2010–2023). These works are part of the archive managed and exhibited by Cristian Hunter. The artist's technique consists of the use of two prints, the first print is the original photography, and the second print is a blurry version of the image printed on glass. The glass version of the picture is shattered with an iron tool to be able to control the rupture. The artists glued the glass parts on top of the original picture, creating a blurred effect. The artists explore even further the infinite possibilities of transformation by turning something as temporary as a fashion editorial, into something completely different and original; a unique piece of art. The “visible” spectrum, is probably the most well-known of human sensory limitations, as the human #eye is only capable of perceiving light at wavelengths between 390 and 750 nanometers. Of course, calling it the “visible” spectrum is a bit of a misnomer, as plenty of animals are capable of perceiving light with frequencies outside this relatively narrow band of electromagnetic radiation. Using infrared black and white...

Zupan combines images from old masters, alchemical prints, contemporary artists, and bits from magazines and newspapers to create overlapping, intersecting worlds of transparencies and transformation. Colleges allow emotions to converge with the material, the juxtaposition of the past and present in an atmosphere of no time. She seeks baroque minimalism. The work is informed by romance, desire, disillusion, torment, ecstasy, dream, and myth. Her best works are erotic displays of mental confusion, particularly concerning relationships. She usually works in series to emphasize repetition and obsession Combining Renaissance ideals and concepts with images taken from contemporary media, Natasha Zupan beautifully unites the old and the new in her collage work. Natasha combines the innovation of her elaborate technique with her charm for tradition and the inspiration of the great Masters. Her clear, bright brushstrokes and her play of light and shadow are both rhythmic and youthful. The female figures in her paintings have an undeniable Renaissance character at the time, but they are reborn in our understanding of contemporary aesthetics. Their classic faces become modern nymphs when combined with symbols of nature and beauty. Each figurative work harbors a unique and intricate personality. Powerfully expressive, they are at once pure, sensual, innocent and seductive. From the Series Eternal Recurrence Photo collage...

Harmonious Mixed Media on Canvas, Contemporary 21st Century Art

Located in Ibadan, Oyo

"We are all equal in the fact that we are all different." These poignant words serve as the foundation of "Harmonious (Mixed Feeling)." The artwork beautifully captures the essence of diversity by presenting two women, each with their own distinct features, cultural backgrounds, and experiences. The artist's skillful portrayal of these differences reminds us that our individuality is a cause for celebration, as it contributes to the vibrant tapestry of human existence. "We are all the same in the fact that we will never be the same." This powerful statement challenges the notion of uniformity and emphasizes the beauty of our unique identities. In "Harmonious (Mixed Feeling)," the smiles shared by the two women symbolize a universal language of joy and happiness. Regardless of our disparities, the human capacity to experience and express emotions unites us on a profound level. It is in these shared emotions that we find common ground and build bridges of understanding. "We are united by the reality that all colors and all cultures are distinct & individual." The vibrant colors depicted in the artwork serve as a metaphor for the rich diversity present in our world. Just as a rainbow showcases a spectrum of hues, cultures, and ethnicities contribute to the multifaceted nature of humanity. "Harmonious (Mixed Feeling)" reminds us that it is within the intersections of our varied backgrounds that we can appreciate and learn from one another, fostering a sense of respect and admiration for the tapestry of cultures that surround us. "We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this earth by the same gravity." These profound words emphasize the fundamental truth that unites us all: our shared existence on this planet. Regardless of our differences, we are bound by the interdependence of life, breathing the same air and being subject to the same natural laws. The artwork serves as a reminder that, beyond societal constructs and cultural boundaries, we are all interconnected beings, deserving of empathy, compassion, and respect. "I will not blind myself and say that my black brother...
