Spacetime by artist Lisa Weiss is a contemporary abstract yellow, grey, white, red and blue mixed media on panel that measures 34 x 22 and is priced at $1,600. Lisa Weiss’ work is about mark making, patterning, spontaneous movement, momentary awareness and paring down to essentials. She is continually looking for ways to detach from the past and future with a focus on the here and now. Weiss’ paintings are process driven by movement, repetition, materials, and place. Her works are for beauty and contemplation. A professional artist from Tennessee, Lisa Weiss received her BFA in painting and sculpture from Middle Tennessee State University in 1990. She received a teaching assistantship to Louisiana State University in Painting and Drawing and completed her MFA in 1996. Lisa has exhibited her work nationally in solo and group shows for the past fifteen years. She is included in numerous public and private collections throughout America, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Holland. She has the honor of being in the Hunter Museum permanent collection. In the last seven years, Lisa has attended four artist residencies: Dorland Colony in California, Millay Colony in New York, Wurlitzer Foundation in New Mexico and the Nantucket School of Art on Nantucket Island. She has taught design, painting and drawing at the University of Southern Mississippi, Watkins College of Art and Film, Eastern New Mexico University and Winthrop University. Lisa has recently earned initial certification for teaching yoga from Yandara Yoga Institute in Todos Santos, Mexico. She has traveled the United States, Mexico and Europe. Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world.
