" Comme un crocodile dans l'eau " stainless steel sculpture by French artist Jean-François André.
Height: 99 cm x Width: 98 cm x Depths: 43 cm
Weight: 11 kg
Anthropomorphism for gentle derision.
Work on polished stainless steel, mirror of our behaviors.
Humor and derision to help us watch our behavior without aggression.
Legacy of the fables of Jean De La Fontaine.
Shoes in skin of foot, satchel in leather of buttocks, the crocodile so fierce advances towards its sad destiny of insensitive predator. His grip reminds us that he is only an object of destiny.
A few words about Jean-François André :
Born in Algeria to French parents in 1960
He began his work in 1998. In 2012, the artist obtained the Akoun rating.
His sculptures can be found as part of private collections in France, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong ...
His universe of emotions, humor and poetry focuses on telling us simple stories about women, men, music, nature and animals that often serve as a pretext to question our behavior. He is currently dedicated to the work of stainless steel, cutting, solding and hammering, aiming to obtain figurative animal works, often ironic reflections of our behavior.
A self-taught artist with a multidisciplinary background, after leaving the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the technical direction of the Ballet of the Bordeaux Opera, he sets on doing sculptures in wood, stone, glass, resin, iron ...
Travelling gives him inspiration and a permanent incentive to search for new experiences. His personal touch is recognizable by his mastery of materials and his humor.
He also dwells in other artistic experiences : books, paintings, drawings, furniture, abstract art, Street art and performances ...
"To be a creative and original artist is to take risks. No need to be provocative or aggressive, just dare to question what's established. "
The artist say :
« I sculpt on the fly after some drawings and photos worked to visualize the expression that interests me. The choice of materials at my disposal is opportunistic at the frantic moment that absorbs all my attention and my energy in the realization of my emotion. »
