John Walker British (b. 1939) Salsipuedes Forms (1991) Monoprint relief print with dry pigment, monotype Hand signed lower right Provenance: Garner Tullis Workshop A monotype is literally one of a kind; it is not a method of multiplication. The artist makes an image with a liquid medium on wood, metal or glass, and paper is laid over the moist image and bonded under pressure the paper is then removed bringing with it the transposed monotype. John Walker (born 1939) is an English painter and printmaker. He has been called "one of the standout abstract painters of the last 50 years." Walker studied in Birmingham at the Moseley School of Art, and later the Birmingham School of Art and Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. Some of his early work was inspired by abstract expressionist art and post-painterly abstraction, and often combined apparently three-dimensional, sculptural shapes with "flatter" elements. These pieces are usually rendered in acrylic paint. In the early 1970s, Walker made a series of large Blackboard Pieces using chalk first exhibited at the opening of Ikon Gallery, in Birmingham Shopping Centre, Birmingham in 1972 and the Juggernaut works which also use dry pigment. From the late 1970s, his work marked allusions to earlier painters, such as Francisco Goya, Edouard Manet and Henri Matisse, either through the quoting of a pictorial motif, or the use of a particular technique. Also during this time, he began to use oil paint more in his work. His paintings of the 1970s are also notable for what has come to be termed canvas collage, the application of glued-on, separately painted patches of canvas to the main canvas. Beginning in the 1970s John Walker was one of the most influential and imitated painters working in the UK; he exhibited alongside Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, represented his country at the 1972 Venice Biennale, had extensive survey shows at both the Tate and Hayward galleries and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1985. After spending some time in Australia, Walker got a position at the Victoria College of the Arts in Melbourne. He produced the Oceania series around this time which incorporates elements of native Oceanic art. Walker is currently the head of the graduate painting program at Boston University. Walker won the 1976 John Moores Painting Prize and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1985. In September 2010, Walker and five other British artists including Howard Hodgkin, John Hoyland, Ian Stephenson, Patrick Caulfield and R.B. Kitaj were included in an exhibition entitled The Independent Eye: Contemporary British Art From the Collection of Samuel and Gabrielle Lurie, at the Yale Center for British Art. His art was influenced by Boston Expressionism. Along with Aaron Fink, Gerry Bergstein, Jon Imber, Michael Mazur, Katherine Porter, Jane Smaldone, John Walker, and Philip Guston. Through Garner Tullis at Experimental Press he met Sean Scully, Friedel Dzubas, Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Francis, William Wiley, and others. "PINK POW" Monoprint Batman and the Movie Star with iridescent acrylic on canvas

By Ceravolo

Located in Southampton, NY

Ceravolo's just completed Mono Print with iridescent acrylic hand work is titled "PINK POW" with aqua blue burst. based on his "Batman and the Movie Star" original painting on canvas. This canvas measures approx. 28x40" framed. Ceravolo has created several unique mono prints based on his "Batman and the Movie Star" all with different "POW" and burst colors. This one is Pink POW with an aqua blue burst. All of these monoprints have an iridescent painted Bat Signal in the sky hand painted by Ceravolo. One of The Hampton's most popular urban Pop artists Ceravolo's work has been exhibited alongside Andy Warhol and Peter Max for years, his paintings are collected by Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Alice Cooper among others. He has been call the "Rock and Roll Painter" and "Painter of the Stars of Rock" by the media. This Monoprint features Batman driving his Batmobile with a sultry Movie Star sitting next to him while at the same time there is a "Bat Call" signal in the night sky signaling him that there is a need for his help in Gotham City. Along with those two distractions the gopher "G" is standing next to Batman on the side of the Bat Mobile. While this is all going on Batman is thinking...."I must concentrate on driving" Maybe this is a typical night for Batman in Gotham City. We have included in this listing an image of Ceravolo with some of his famous collectors. His paintings can be found in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, PETE DAVIDSON, GRANT CARDONE, HUGH M. HEFNER, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few. Ceravolo's art came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create five large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City of Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Zappa, Neil Young and Hall and Oates.

The Letter, young lady in her boudoir 19th Century majestic miniature painting

Located in Norwich, GB

A majestic miniature painting by Victor Mongodin. Painted with extraordinary detail, it depicts a pretty young lady writing a letter in her boudoir. Mongodin clearly delights in painting fabrics... the silk of her skirt, the cotton of her camisole, as well as the luxurious velvets of the curtains and drapery. And then there is the mystery: who is she writing to? Born in Vire in Normandy in 1819, Victor Mongodin had studied with de Rudder. Working in the French Capital...

Antique French Oil Painting Claude Rouget de LiIsle Singing "La Marseillaise"

Antique French Oil Painting Claude Rouget de LiIsle Singing "La Marseillaise"

By Isidore Alexandre Augustin Pils

Located in Portland, OR

A fine antique French oil painting on canvas by Isidore Alexandre Augustin Pils (1815–1875), the painting depicting Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle (1760-1836) singing "La Marseillaise", circa 1849. Isidore Pils was an academic painter, very often painting military subjects. Claude Rouget de Lisle was a French army officer from the French Revolutionary Wars and famously wrote the words to "La Marseillaise" and first performed it to the Mayor of Strasbourg; Baron Philippe-Frederic de Dietrich. This painting dates to the middle of the 19th century and could be by the hand of Pils or possibly a talented copyist who was also a classically trained artist, the work appears to be unsigned. The painting is in excellent condition and is housed in a gilded frame. Isidore Pils produced a number of paintings with this famous scene and one such painting is housed in the collection of The Louvre in Paris. At sight without frame 26.50" x 22" Pils was born in Paris as the son of a soldier François Pils. At the age of twelve, he studied with Guillaume Guillon-Lethière for four years. In 1831 he became a student at the École des Beaux-Arts and studied under François-Édouard Picot. He competed for the Prix de Rome, which he won in 1838 for a history painting, St. Peter Healing a Lame Man at the Door of the Temple. Although in poor health, Pils then spent the customary three years at the French Academy in Rome at the Villa Medici, which then had Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres as its director. While in Italy he visited Naples, Venice, and Florence. Pils's earlier paintings have religious themes. In 1849 he completed his most famous work, Rouget de L'Isle Singing La Marseillaise, which now resides at the Musée historique de Strasbourg. After experiences travelling with French troops through the Crimea, his themes took on military and nationalistic subjects. He later produced many military scenes during the siege of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Pils was appointed professor of painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1863 but left the same year for two years in Algeria. In 1868 he was elected to seat #14 of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Among his students were Adrien Moreau, Paul Adolphe Rajon, Julien Dupré, Luc-Olivier Merson, Ludovic Piette...

"BLUE POW" Sunset Sky Monoprint Batman & the Movie Star with iridescent acrylic

By Ceravolo

Located in Southampton, NY

Ceravolo's just completed Mono Print with iridescent acrylic hand work is titled "BLUE POW" with Yellow burst. The art is based on his "Batman and the Movie Star" original painting on canvas. This canvas measures approx. 28x39" framed. Ceravolo has created several unique mono prints based on his "Batman and the Movie Star" all with different "POW" and burst colors. This one is Blue POW with yellow burst. This canvas also has a Sunset Sky. His paintings can be found in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M.
