This lavishly illustrated hardback monograph with dust jacket is warmly signed and inscribed on the first front end page by both Alexander Liberman and the author, art historian, Barbara Rose, and it is accompanied by a separate handwritten card, signed by Alexander Liberman and held in the original envelope. (see photos).
The book and card was inscribed to Jack Haber, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ) from 1969 to 1983. GQ was owned by Conde Nast, and Alexander Liberman, who worked for Conde Nast for 32 years, was the Editorial Director from 1962-1983. Sadly, Jack Haber would die in 1984 at the age of 45 - one of the first casualties of the AIDS crisis, which was devastating to the art and publishing industries.

About Alexander Liberman:
Considered a revolutionary Minimalist artist, Alexander Liberman produced works that predated the movement by more than a decade. Liberman, not wanting to limit himself to any one form of expression, worked to produce radically minimalist paintings and sculpture in order to illuminate his beliefs about celestial motion, the movement of the eye, as well as human sexuality. The artist’s fascination with American industrialization and modernization ultimately resulted in his widely known red steel sculptures and geometric paintings, which seem to decompose the turbulence of the time period.
Alexander Liberman was born in 1912 in Kiev, Russia. He studied first in London and then in Paris. He took courses in philosophy and mathematics at the Sorbonne and architecture at L’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Liberman has had numerous solo exhibitions at museums such as the Jewish Museum, New York (1966); Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, NY (1970); and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1970). His sculpture and paintings are included in the museum collections of the Art Institute, Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; the Tate Gallery, London and many others. Additionally his public sculpture can be seen in over 40 cities around the world including Honolulu, Los Angeles, Miami, New Haven, New York, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia. Alexander Liberman died in November of 1999 at the age of 87.

Rhapsody'' is Bartlett's multi-part, multi-theme epic, a statement of the coming of age of an artist. A portable mural extended over 987 one-foot steel plates requiring 153 running feet of wall space, it is an enormous and infrequently mastered challenge to install and exhibit. In 1985-86, however, it will be on view in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Brooklyn, La Jolla, and Pittsburgh, and well worth a trip. In book form it becomes more available, with Smith's guided tour through sections, with Bartlett's notes giving conceptual coherence, and the opportunity to move from close-up to long view by turning a page. Rhapsody'' and this book afford a glimpse of a mind and art in action, a discovering and ordering process, an exciting demonstration of ways of growing and expressing the self and the world. Highly recommended.

By the mid-1970s, Jennifer Bartlett (1941-2022, b. Long Beach, California) had emerged as a leading American artist of her time—particularly following the landmark presentation at Paula Cooper Gallery of Rhapsody (1976), Bartlett’s magnum opus, now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Bartlett’s first survey exhibition was held in 1985 at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and traveled to the Brooklyn Museum, New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Philadelphia, among others. Painter and printmaker Will Barnet has actively participated in the New York art world for nearly 70 years. A leading figure in the Indian Space painting movement of the late 1940s, Barnet stressed the spatial structures of Northwest Coast Indian art. Throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, he made a series of hardedged, totemic abstractions marked by their "all-positive" space, which he described as austere, classical expressions of Indian culture. He then moved on to new art forms in the 1960s and 1970s, creating a series of family and art world portraits that achieved a remarkable balance between the formal demands of abstraction and the humanist aspects of representation.
Will Barnet: A Timeless World is the first substantial publications to unify Barnet's prodigious output. Art historian Gail Stavitsky provides an overview of this artist's entire career. Twig Johnson, the museum's curator of Native American Art, discusses the relationship of Barnet's work to this important indigenous artistic tradition. Jessica Nicoll, chief curator at the Portland Museum of Art, explores the profound impact of New England upon Barnet and his work. Will Barnet was born in Beverly, Massachusetts in 1911. He has taught and exhibited widely over his more than seventy-five year career. His works are in the collection of virtually every American museum, including locally The Guggenheim Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Whitney Museum of American. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In fall 2011 the National Academy Museum will present a retrospective exhibition being organized by Bruce Weber.
