The work shows a strong resemblance to a portrait by Finsonius in the North Brabant Museum. This
signed and dated "Girl with Basket and Cherries" (Inv. 15529), was painted just a year later, in 1632.
Not only are the paintings remarkably similar in overall size and format, in painting style, and in the
positioning of the girls in full length in their white lace dresses. They are also connected by the
iconographic scheme of the respective coral necklaces, each with a gold memorial medal hanging
from it. Although they are of course individuals, the faces are very similar in their depictions of
features such as eyes, nose, and lips. This points to the same technique applied by the same painter.
Finally, the handwriting is almost the same on the works by Finsonius known so far.

Artist Biography: Born in New York City in 1923, Herb Mears was interested in art from a young age. He studied under Fernand Leger in Paris and went on to paint and study in various studios in France and Italy before his arrival in Houston in 1951. With colleague David Adickes, whom he had met in Paris, Mears decided to open an art school. Their Studio of Contemporary Arts finally settled in an old building on Main Street with Mears and Adickes hoping to give classes to potential students. However money was tight and Mears found himself as a draftsman for Houston Lighting and Power Company, a job he excelled at and enjoyed. Later, Mears was involved in the Contemporary Arts Association, frequently making trips to ensure security in addition to enjoying the art scene the Association provided. From the CAA to the Art League of Houston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Mears began to gain recognition. An abstract, or non-objective piece as he called it, won a prize at a competition held by the Museum of Fine Arts, earning him a teaching position at the Museum School. Andrzej Malinowski was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1947. He worked as artist, painter, graphic designer, illustrator, and poster creator. He resides and works in France.
In his youth, Andrzej Malinowski drew inspiration from the works of Vermeer and Rembrandt. In 1973, he graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the Illustration Department. After obtaining his diploma, he moved to Paris, where he continues to live and create. In 1982, he was granted French citizenship.
During the initial period of his stay in France, Malinowski was engaged in artistic direction, creating audiovisual presentations, television programs, graphics, illustrations, and posters. During this time, he won awards in the field of posters and illustrations. In 1977, he received the First Prize for the poster for the film The Exorcist at the Deauville Film Festival, as reported, among others, by French newspaper Le Parisien.
