Early Light is an original oil on paper by Richard Whadcock. This was an early morning on the way to the study. A sea mist was being slowly lifted by the rising sun and revealing the surroundings through subtly changing diffused light..
Richard Whadcock is a contemporary artist specialising in atmospheric landscape paintings. His contemporary landscape paintings explore the South Downs and East Sussex coast. Trying to capture its ever changing dramatic atmosphere from silent stillness to squally days. The South Downs are only a starting point as the paintings themselves eventually take over and follow their own path creating their unique surface landscape. Richard studied at Fine Art at Bristol Polytechnic from 1986-89 where the work crossed between painting and printmaking. He then went onto study for his MA at the Royal College of Art specialising in printmaking. He utilised etching but mainly lithography due to its closeness to painting. Along side these he would also paint with all these disciplines feeding each other and expanding ideas. After leaving college Richard was awarded a residency at the Lowick House Print Workshop in Cumbria and more recently, 2014, he was also awarded a two week residency at Cill Rialaig artists village in Kerry, Ireland. His studio has been part of the Phoenix Arts studios in Brighton for the last 15yrs. It is one of the largest artist lead organisations remaining. Artist, teacher and costume designer, Sanzo Wada worked during a turbulent time in avant-garde Japanese art and cinema. A multi-talented artist who gained early fame as a Western-style oil painter, his career spanned the late Meiji-era through the mid-twentieth century. In addition to numerous prizes and medals for his painting, he received the 1955 Academy Award for costume design for his work in the movie Gates of Hell. He also received awards for his pioneering work on color theory, which he researched and published in the 1920s and is still in use today.
Sanzo Wada graduated from the Western-style painting division of Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Studied in Europe 1907-1915; traveled to India and Burma. He was appointed a member of the Imperial Arts Academy in 1927 and taught at Tokyo School of Fine Arts from 1927.

Style :
Pradosh’s works can be described as psychic automatism in its pure state. His works are expressive and his palette vibrant and gorgeous. Nature is the frequent imagery that we see in his paintings. Sometimes his imagery is outlandish, perplexing and uncanny as it is meant to shake the viewer and make them to think beyond the theories which they have guarded themselves with.
Lot of elements that we see in pradosh’s paintings also come from his childhood days in Odisha. like the cock, kite or the bioscope. As a young boy also he used to enjoy nature study and it became his daily routine to go and sit amongst trees and birds and observe them very closely, which made him gain mastery over water colour medium.
Pradosh’s paintings have a surrealistic quality, the imagery is dreamy and mystical and rendering is such as if there is some kind of romance and magic happening amongst the colours in his palette. His paintings are the result of brilliant culminations of feelings and things that are between imagination and reality. They reflect his genuine concern about issues he feels for. He emphasizes on the power of imagination and believes that revelation could be found anywhere….on the streets and in everyday life. Through his paintings artist depicts the notion that how our high pace life is making all of us loose that contact from the nature or even with ourselves.

1994 : Bachelor in Fine Arts from Utkal University.
1989 : Diploma in Photographic from College of Education and Technology, Bubaneswar
2005 : Certificate Course on Reprography from National archives of India, New Delhi.
2007 : Conservation of Art Objects from National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property, Lucknow.
