Description
A large African wildlife pastel by Vic Andrews, depicting ostriches moving across the Kalahari at sunset. The composition is beautifully spacious, with the birds silhouetted along the low horizon beneath a wide sky of soft gold, peach and pink cloud. The dry scrubland and isolated tree give the scene a strong sense of place, while the pastel medium allows for a particularly gentle handling of light and atmosphere.
At 21.75 x 32.5 inches, plus frame, this is a generous landscape-format work that would sit well above a sofa, sideboard, console or bed. The warm sunset palette would bring softness and depth to a sitting room, study, hallway or bedroom, especially in interiors with natural textures, warm neutrals, leather, linen or darker wood. Although it is a wildlife subject, the restraint of the composition makes it feel calm and considered rather than overtly decorative.
Vic Andrews was born in London and spent his adult life in South Africa, drawing many of his subjects from travels through Natal, the Western Cape...
