'Ego' - floral - sun - fauvism - colorful - black cat - Greek mythology - snakes
Located in Atlanta, GA
This colorful work features hues of green, blue, gold and red. This piece is framed in a painted wooden frame measuring 37.62 by 39.62 inches. New Orleans native, Athens-based artist, Shelby Little, creates paintings as a form of visual storytelling with hidden narratives that unfold throughout her process. Weaving together inspiration from memories, dreams, and her surroundings, she creates a personal mythos, allowing her characters to reveal themselves at their own pace. Her works explore the cyclical nature of time, mortality, the afterlife, the thin line between order and chaos, and the seemingly inherent duality in all things. Shelby’s characters in the nearly endless versions of Greco-Roman myths...

Polychrome Gel #15
Located in Greenwich, CT
Polychrome Gel #15 is an oil painting on canvas with a canvas size of 24 x 18 inches, signed, titled and dated on the overlap verso, 'Ben Weiner Polychrome Gel #15 2020'' and framed in a contemporary white frame. Connecting two opposing styles—abstraction and photorealism—Ben Weiner creates hyper-detailed, lush paintings and videos of extremely magnified consumer products, including hair gel, chemical food additives, and deodorant. In his work, he presents such meticulously rendered, close-up views of his subjects that they read as pure abstractions. A through-line in Weiner’s various bodies of work is contemporary culture’s obsession with bodily enhancement through chemical products—whether by using hair products or taking illegal drugs. "The Gel Series presents a virtual environment that is in flux. Based on hair gel, a material that is physically malleable and visually enticing, it has the ability to change one’s physical appearance. In an abstract manner, the painting reflects our current global environment, subject to constant, dramatic change and rapid development- on the one hand through humanity’s ability to alter the face of the earth according to its ideas; on the other through changing environmental conditions and natural disasters". - Ben Weiner Ben Charles Weiner (b. 1980) is a New York based contemporary artist. His work bridges the seemingly opposite styles of hyperrealism, and process-based abstraction. Mr. Weiner has exhibited his work widely in the US and internationally, at institutions including The Carnegie Art Museum, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, and The Tarble Art Center. His work is in public collections including Microsoft, Sammlung/Collection, Progressive Insurance, and The Frederick R. Weisman Collection...

“Good artists borrow. Great artists steal.” A quote oft attributed to various sources that was never actually uttered by any of them. Though Mark Twain elaborated on the sentiment: “Ninety-nine parts of all things that proceed from the intellect are plagiarisms.” In the Framed Series, I use my 1% contribution to combine issues of consumption with my autobiography. I paint copies of copies of paintings within paintings to reference the appropriation, commodification, and altered continuum of art. My paintings of paintings are based on photographs of originals to perpetuate the continual distillation of form, given the ease with which images are presently exchanged and modified. Further, by reducing historically significant paintings to framed objects...

Cherry Chocolate Cupcake
Located in Fairfield, CT
The bold flowers and repeating geometric patterns in this series of paintings are lushly modeled in oil paint, and are coupled with the use of inlaid wood. Surrounding the colorful and whimsical bouquets and garlands is a border of complimentary colors rife with kaleidoscopic floral images to further entice the eye. Influences of Persian miniatures and French Baroque are prevalent, as well as traditional floral painting which was used to document nature’s beauty. The artist states, “By using subject matter that is historically decorative and painterly, I seek to explore the medium’s more ethereal content.” The paintings become visually intense and hallucinatory as different varieties of flowers and leaves dance and intertwine in the geometry of the surrounding patterns. Traditionally mysticism was effectively communicated in painting through an assortment of lyrical, painterly indulgences, creating a supernatural, as well as an escapist experience. Matt Jacobs...

Random Stone of Oblivion
Located in Montreal, Quebec
I made these paintings in response to a prediction for a change in the colour of the sky and oceans as a consequence of man-made climate change. This idea described by Peter Ward in his book Under a Pale Green Sky is based on his study of the great mass extinction events of the past. For many of these extinction events the earth’s chemistry changed the sky to green and the oceans purple. My personal memories are often tied to colour – my first recollection is of an orange cup being handed to me, and I can vividly remember the very first time I was able to wield colour with a red crayon. As a painter, I acutely feel the significance of this change in colour of the world’s landscapes...

Amanecer
Located in Miami, FL
During 1970, working at the University of Havana, Jorge is assigned as a cartoonist in the Department of Animation and Design. This audiovisual media center had an extensive graphic library, where Jorge discovered what would later become the goals of his creativity and his artistic motivation for life. Among the publications of the IDEA magazine that he used in everyday work as a cartoonist and animator he found articles and paintings by the Hungarian-French Optical Art artist 'Victor Vasarely' (1906-1997). From this work the personal challenge and inspiration of the artist Jorge Garcia was born. With his natural talent to recognize drawing lines, the abstraction of the figure, and the tones and contrasts of light and volume, Jorge was satisfactorily accepted within the group of artist who worked in the center as animators. In 1971 he ventured as an optical artist with the work called "Interference I" at a local contest of his municipality. Competing alongside works by renowned Cuban artists such as Nelson Dominguez, Orlando Lara and Roberto Fabelo, in the galleries of The National Museum of Fine Arts, "Interference I" was successfully exhibited for more than 5 months, as part of the "VI Juvenile Hall of Plastic Arts "and its success led to the birth of an artist, JorGar. JorGar continued in such fashion, difficult to explain, beyond being understood, a creator of many works whose complexity can only be observed through abstraction and the vigilant game of interpretation, which conform to the pleasures of the restless space and the transformation of volume. In 1975 he exhibited with a group of artists in the “Talía” salon of the University of Havana. That same year he won the 1st place of this exhibition with his work "Dawn". In 1976 he was entrusted by the magazine "Alma Mater" for the creation of an allegorical work of the birth of the Cuban master...
