Original 'Produits Lavocat' vintage poster for Force and Energy

Original 'Produits Lavocat' vintage poster for Force and Energy

Located in Spokane, WA

Original vintage poster: Lavocat aliments irradies. Force, Energie par les produits. This is a classic French late Art Deco period poster featuring a buff rugby player almost outpacing a steed - due no doubt to Lavocat, an 'irradiated' food. Even today, the American FDA believes that irradiating food can burn off harmful bacteria, airborne germs, and other microbes which can adversely affect food. We love this poster's depth of color, texture, and oomph - powerful and very, very Art Deco. This poster is an original Art Deco lithograph. This poster is related more to sports and running than food, but food provides energy. Note that the red is cherry red since different monitors produce the red color of this poster in different qualities. Excellent condition, undated on the poster. Behind the rugby runner is a black horse that appears to be neck and neck...

Original "The Mikado or, The Town of Titipu" vintage lithographic theater poster

Located in Spokane, WA

Original THE MIKADO, or the Town of Titipu vintage poster. Size: 20" x 30"; original early theater poster. Acid-free, archival linen backed; ready to frame. Excellent condition. The poster features a stylized illustration of a woman in traditional Japanese attire, with a serene expression and flowers in her hair. Original, linen-backed lithograph of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado or, The Town of Titipu. Museum linen backed and in great condition. Lithograph in colors, printed by Stafford & Co. Ltd., Netherfield, Nottingham and London, England. Gilbert and Sullivan refer to the Victorian-era theatrical partnership of the librettist W. S. Gilbert (1836–1911) and the composer Arthur Sullivan (1842–1900). Gilbert, who wrote the words, created fanciful 'topsy-turvy' worlds for these operas where each absurdity is taken to its logical conclusion. Sullivan created the music for these operas. "The Mikado" is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan, first performed in 1885. Set in Japan, it satirizes British politics and society through its whimsical characters and humorous plot. The vintage poster you mentioned typically features vibrant colors and stylized artwork, often depicting a character from the opera, such as Yum-Yum, known for her beauty and charm. "The Mikado" is one of the most frequently performed works in the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire and has been adapted into numerous productions worldwide. This is an Original Vintage Theater Poster...

PHILIPPE NOYER "AU BAR" WATERCOLOR, SIGNED FRANCE, C.1960S 25.5 X 19.5 INCHES Philippe Henri Noyer 1917-1985 Philippe Henri Noyer was born on June 28, 1917 in Lyons, France. After a traditional education at the elite Ecole des Roches, Noyer enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon. Next he moved to Paris, where he worked in decorative arts and advertising. It was during this time, he discovered his talent for oil painting, officially starting his painting career in 1943. That same year, Noyer met the famed Parisian art deal, Emmanuel David, who would promote his work and career. Noyer produced many portraits, for which he quickly gained an international reputation, but he also painted dream figures in rural or maritime settings, compositions that were classical in technique but surreal in concept. In 1947, Noyer held his first one-man show at the prestigious Drouant-David Gallery in Paris. In 1949 the gallery consigned twenty of Noyer’s paintings to an American art dealer who had agreed to organize an exhibition of them in the United States. However the American dealer sold the paintings at cost, in order cover a gambling debt, to Robert Goldstein...

Mermaid

By Erté

Located in Greenwich, CT

Whether in the draping of a silk gown worn by an opera diva, or in the sparkle of an intricately beaded headdress worn by a woman of society, Erté had an exceptionally acute visual memory of every detail of his early design creations. It was no wonder then that his fashion designs were so adeptly applied to the sculpture format. In Mermaid, we have a fine example of how Erté carried the technical possibilities of the sculpture medium to a new level. This attention to detail added to his legend as one of the Twentieth Century’s foremost artist-designers, with work represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Paris Opera House, the Smithsonian Institution and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Through Mermaid, Erté takes us beyond the female form by choosing the intriguing legendary sea creature whose upper body is that of a woman, and whose lower body is that of an aquatic creature. In quintessential Erté style...
